Micropayments for Bloggers a Reality

(PRWEB) March 7, 2010

Fraxion Payments today released its WordPress Plug-in that allows bloggers and journalists to charge for their articles, as little as one Fraxion, about US1c, with one click.

Creators of quality content can now charge for their work, says Chris Wilkins, co-founder of Fraxion Payments. Those who create the content will get the lions share of the revenue. This is the way it should be.

Bloggers will be paid up to 85 per cent on a monthly basis for purchased articles, which may well be a huge boost for citizen journalism.

The Debate over Paid Content

The issue of paid content and the need for easy Internet payment methods has been widely discussed, most prominently by newspaper tycoon Rupert Murdoch who has been leading the debate over the need to charge for quality journalism. Over the last year, a number of journalism experts, such as Walter Isaacson, ex-editor and CEO of Time, have stressed the need for a solution to let news make full use of the Internet, and at the same time generate revenue to support the creation of good quality work.

Peter Cashmore, from mashable.com recently said micropayments might work if the price point was low enough, and if it was convenient enough. Adds Wilkins: You cant go any lower than 1c and one click. It couldnt be easier.

Easy-to-use Plug-in

The Fraxion Payments Plug-in is currently made for WordPress, the most widely used blogging freeware and is available from http://www.fraxionpayments.com and http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/fraxion/. It only takes minutes to download and install. A blogger then sets the price for their articles, and what parts will be locked and unlocked. An unlocked part of an article, usually the headline and the introduction, can be viewed publicly and indexed by search engines.

The locked parts only appear once the appropriate amount of Fraxions have been paid. Readers can purchase Fraxions, the systems currency, quickly and easily by setting up a user account and pay by credit card. Readers are only one click away from unlocking and reading a full article on any blog site that uses the Fraxion Payments plug-in.
