Why is having a visual or graphic aid so compelling? Trautman says that about 65% of people are visual learners, meaning they have to see something to process and retain what they are taking in. About 30% of people are auditory learners. This group of people usually learns best by being a part of the conversation and then seeing a summary of what was said during the meeting. The rest of the 5% are kinesthetic learners who work best in collaborative processes. As a result, both internal and external meetings are filled with people who learn best in different contexts.
If you learn some easy graphics and you get used to going into conversations where you are really looking for rich meaning and true collaboration, what will happen is that your group will be able to see outlier ideas and synthesize those with some familiar ones. The result is that youll come out with something that is so much stronger than what you would normally get, Trautman explains.
