Education Expert Explains Common Core Standards Implementation

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) March 14, 2012

While Common Core Standards Implementation seems to be on the tip of every tongue in American education today, many seem unsure of what it is or how it ought to be taught in the classroom.

For those willing to look, the answers arent difficult to find.

Victor Rivero, Editor-in-Chief of Edtech Digest, a magazine about education transformed through technology, points his readers toward what is becoming one of the most prominent sources for Common Core implementation support in the country. He recently interviewed Curtis Linton, executive producer of PD developer School Improvement Network, and the brains behind perhaps the most compelling, effective professional development currently being produced for educators.

One introductory video, says Rivero, offers one of the most lucid descriptions of the Common Core available anywhere. In A Vision of the Common Core Standards Initiative, Curtis Linton provides some answers to questions that frustrated educators may be looking for.

But, as the interview goes on to reveal, Linton has produced far more than a single video about Common Core Standards implementation.

School Improvement Network is currently videotaping hundreds of classrooms in order to authentically illustrate what the Common Core looks like when taught in the classroom, explains Linton. Over the next 2-3 years, we will build a video library of every Common Core standard being taught at every grade level K-12. Through School Improvement Networks Common Core training platform, Common Core 360, teachers can learn from other teachers how to effectively teach the Common Core.

And the Common Core implementation resource couldnt come at a better time.

American students continue to fall behind their international counterparts, Linton explains to Rivero in their interview. Having lagged behind global education reform efforts, the U.S. is left with a less capable workforce, and high school graduates are unprepared for the academic and professional rigor that lies ahead.

The goal of the Common Core Standards movement is college and career readiness for every student, Linton goes on. When successfully implemented, the Common Core Standards drive each individual student equitably towards college and career readiness so that the student can choose for him- or herself what he or she may do upon high school graduation, rather than the educational institution inequitably preparing some and not others.
