A social media strategy cannot stand alone to fully promote a brand, said Hope-Johnstone, to reach full marketing impact, you must integrate social media into a complete marketing approach. You must develop a marketing strategy that reaches as many of the ‘touch points’ as possible with your consumers.
Based on the popularity of his social media blog, http://www.buzzmaster.wordpress.com and his marketing book, How to Market Tourism in the 21st Century, http://www.johnhopejohnstone.com, John Hope-Johnstone has opened a new Public Relations and Social Media coaching organization “HPR Social Media”. HPR assists organizations and individuals to integrate their social media campaigns within their full marketing program.
“We heard clients say too often,” continued Hope-Johnstone, “that they were cutting back on other marketing tools and adding more social media because they believe that it’s inexpensive. Well, social media is labor intensive and, if done properly, it is not cheap.”
Social media is another tool in the markekting arsenal, it is not a stand alone product, as it is being used by so many organizations today.
We have, in the past, continued Hope-Johnstone, tried stand alone social media strategies. While they provided adequate public relations returns, they did not reach their full potential until they were combined into a unified program that utilized as many of the tools of marketing as possible. In 2009, Corvallis Tourism under my direction won the Governors Tourism Award for New Marketing Programs by integrating a social media strategy with other marketing tools, we would not have had the amazing results we achieved in that promotion, had we not used social media combined with other marketing tools to create a complete marketing approach.
HPR Social Media has developed a suite of scenarios that combine excellent social media strategies that complement and support the full brand marketing program. They are part of the gestalt of marketing and not separate.
In November 2009, HPR began coaching diverse clients in social media integration including; Tourism regions such as Sunset Country in Ontario Canada, Real Estate companies, Trade Associations, Community Colleges and non-profit organizations.
The response to our social media integration technique has been overwhelming, stated John Hope-Johnstone, We offer Social Media integration. We also offer social media seminars and one-on-one coaching. We are not bound geographically and use WebEx to reach organizations and individuals through live Webinars when in-person is not a possibility. This allows us to offer our services nationally and internationally.
