Redmond, Wash. (PRWEB) March 17, 2010
WildTangent, the worlds largest games media company, today announced WildCoins for Kids, a collaborative effort between WildTangent and its more than 40 million customers worldwide to donate laptop computers to needy children throughout the world.
Beginning this week, WildTangent will travel across six continents to hand-deliver hundreds of laptops to children in more than 50 countries with the goal of increasing donations every year thereafter.
WildCoins for Kids is a program founded on the principle that games are global, games are fun and games help kids learn, said Sean Vanderdasson, senior vice president and chief traveler at WildTangent. Perhaps most importantly, games help kids be kids. This is part of our company culture and it is why we are excited to empower our customers to contribute directly to this effort, whether through playing the WildCoins for Kids Game of the Day or through directly donating WildCoins.
WildTangent loads each laptop it donates with 30-50 culturally sensitive, family-friendly games in the childs native language where possible. The company also installs productivity software to ensure the laptops can be used to improve educational opportunities as well as get a view into the world via the Internet.
WildTangent is partnering with SOS Childrens Villages and other childrens organizations in more than 50 countries that can benefit from these donations.
SOS Children’s Villages is an international non-governmental social development organization that has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s needs and concerns since 1949. In 132 countries and territories, its main focus areas are family-based care for orphaned, abandoned and neglected children and comprehensive community-based social programs for disadvantaged families.
WildCoins are a virtual currency that WildTangent consumers purchase to play any of the 1,000+ online and downloadable games on WildTangents game network. The number of WildCoins sold is fast approaching one billion since the currencys inception in 2007.
The WildCoins for Kids program allows consumers to contribute to this important effort in two very easy ways:
(1) Direct donation of WildCoins Consumers can donate one or more of their WildCoins (found at http://www.wildgames.com/donate).
(2) Playing Games Each week WildTangent designates one or more games from its catalog as WildCoins for Kids games. Each time a customer uses WildCoins to play a selected game, WildTangent contributes one WildCoin from that game session toward the purchase of laptops for kids.
100 percent of every WildCoin donated goes toward the purchase of laptops while WildTangent covers all travel and other expenses associated with the program.
Most aid organizations understandably focus on the common necessities of food, clothing and shelter, said Vanderdasson. We look to fill a different void, one that is also critically important, and one that we can excel at better than anyone elsehelping kids be kids while creating new opportunities to have fun, improve education, find a job and connect with the world around them.
