Burning Silk is an award-Winning finalist in the Best New Fiction category and Literary Fiction category of the 2010 International Book Awards. It is also a finalist in the Historical Fiction category of the 2010 National Indie Excellence Awards.

According to the Crowded Leaf book review: “It is an epic work of fiction, doused in rich historical language and time, exploring the role of woman as mother, daughter, sister, lover, and self. A complex, multilayered book, Burning Silk tells a story with power and identity, letting the characters develops into themselves. It exposes given certainties and changes them; a child becoming a woman, the first experience of sexuality, confronting ones innermost desires, the voices used to speak to ourselves and others. It is truly unlike any book I’ve ever read.”. The words, the characters, the immense story, won me over. I could hardly set it aside at the end”

This richly written book is a novel of ideas including matrilineality, capitalism/chauvinism, black Madonna and the shock of contact between Europeans and Native Americans. The target audience for these events consists of feminists, Huguenots, bisexuals, textile artists, American history buffs, Native Americans and Metis populations.

Destiny Kinal is a writer, book artist, marketing consultant, feminist, bioregionalist and publisher. Kinal lives in Berkeley, California and western New York. She is currently working on her second book of the textile trilogy called “Linen Shroud”, a book set before, during and after the American Civil War. “Linen Shroud” continues the story of the Duladier and Montour families and their work together in the textile industry not far from the Erie Canal.
