Social Media and the Enterprise Day to be Held at Upcoming Blog Business Summit

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 15, 2007

Businesses shopping for a Web 2.0-style platform to facilitate internal and external communications will need to look no further than the first day of September’s Blog Business Summit conference.

This year’s conference, which begins on September 17th, will feature a one-day workshop titled “Social Media in the Enterprise: Blogs, Wikis and Beyond.” Representatives from many of the major companies that produce platforms that leverage blogs, wikis and social networking tools to foster employee collaboration and creativity will be in attendance.

Companies signed on to demonstrate their tools and technologies for enterprise collaboration include: IBM Lotus, Blogtronix, WordPress, and Near-Time Systems.

“The idea is to expose our attendees to enterprise-relevant tools and platforms,” said conference organizer Steve Broback. “The day will give them a thorough understanding of what’s available and the best ways to use these tools to improve communications and manage knowledge.”

“CIOs and CTOs are now focusing on collaboration based on services-oriented architectures,” said Ed Brill, Business Unit Executive, Worldwide Lotus Notes/Domino Sales, IBM Software Group. “It’s clear that Web 2.0 technologies are taking us far beyond what Email and calendaring provide. We’re excited to have the opportunity to show how enterprise-based social networks can create truly integrated collaboration environments.”

“We’re thrilled to be included in the day,” said Vasil Mladjov, CEO of up-and-coming enterprise blogging platform Blogtronix. “This is an opportunity for us to showcase what makes Blogtronix unique while sharing our general expertise in the field of enterprise blogging.”

Companies that use internal collaboration software have seen their intra-office e-mail traffic reduced by as much as 30%. The result has been more time spent actually innovating and less time sorting through stacks of backlogged e-mail.

“We are excited to join the Summit,” said Reid Conrad, CEO of hosted wiki and weblog platform Near-Time. “This is a timely event to help businesses learn how to transform how they work with their customers, partners and markets by leveraging the new read-write Web.”

“I recently read that EMC is using our WordPress Multi-User offering to facilitate an internal communications system,” said Matt Mullenweg, founding developer of the popular open-source WordPress blogging software. “One of the great things about open-source software is that it can be customized for just about any purpose. EMC’s internal effort is a great example.”

Mullenweg will demonstrate WordPress MU at the enterprise day, and will deliver a keynote about open source blogging software at the main conference.
