Comcast Business Class and BizTechDay Put Small Businesses with a Social Mission in the Spotlight

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 20, 2009

The Big Success Contest, the nation’s first video business pitch contest on Facebook, is giving small business owners a chance to be noticed by the entrepreneurial community while also winning an exclusive TV appearance and a trip to Miami.

Inventors, entrepreneurs and small business owners can enter the competition by submitting their 90-second video pitch on Facebook to be voted on by the entrepreneurial community. The competition consists of three quarterly rounds and leads up to the Big Success Grand Finale where the winners will present in front of a live audience and a panel of judges for a chance to win a 30-minute exclusive interview on CBS5 and a trip to Miami.

The finale will be presented as part of BizTechDay, the annual technology conference for small businesses held in San Francisco on Oct. 22-23, 2009.

The winner of the first round, which finished this spring, was the inventor of GymyGym, the world’s first ergonomically designed home/office chair combined with a full body fitness system. The judging event was attended by 150 people and the panel of judges included CEO of Eventbrite, former Google investor and Regional Vice President of Comcast Business Class.

The contest is currently in its second round, which emphasizes businesses with a social mission.

“During this economic downturn, entrepreneurs are looking for creative and economical ways to market their business,” said Edith Yeung, founder of BizTechDay and San Francisco Entrepreneur Meetup. “This contest is where the business community can broadcast their ideas to the world for free. The only rule is that your business should have a social mission that you believe everyone in the world should know about.”

During last year’s contest, held as a live event in San Francisco, even the runner up received national attention, which helped grow her business.

“After the contest last year, I was interviewed by the San Francisco Business Times and two other local publications that led to national interviews with my industry trade publications,” said Lucy Needham, President of LabelCalc. “My company’s revenue in the past quarter tripled, making the revenue close to the amount generated from the previous full year. The contest was one of my best experiences!”
