Singapore-Armenian Development Council Singapore Embraces Armenian National Olympic Team

The Singapore community warmly embraced the Armenian National Olympic Team at the first-ever Youth Olympic Games, held in Singapore from August 14 to 26. The Armenian team experienced the amazing wonders of Singapore and strengthened Armenian positive contributions to Singapore.

The Armenian delegation and the Singapore-Armenian Development Council give their warmest appreciation to all those who contributed to make this event such a wonderful success, including the International Olympic Committee, as well as the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapores National Heritage Board, and National Parks Singapore. The Council also thanks those foreign embassies that expressed support including the United States, the Peoples Republic of China, the Republic of India, the United Arab Emirates, and the Republic of Armenia.

A spokesperson for the Council congratulated all members of the Armenian team and offered them the Councils assistance in strengthening their positive contributions to Singapore. Pierre Hennes, a member of the Council, said Singapore welcomed the Armenian delegation with open arms, making them feel like family, and showed them the many reasons for the amazing Singapore success.

The Council is committed to assisting Armenians worldwide to contribute to Singapore on a scale that would make our ancestors proud. The Council has three-year goals for Armenians contributions to Singapore and expects to meet or exceed those KPIs, commented Paul B. Kazarian, Chairman of the Charles & Agnes Kazarian Foundation, a founding member of the Council.

The Singapore-Armenian Development Council organized several events with the goal of having the Armenians experience the amazing wonders of Singapore and strengthen Armenian positive contributions to Singapore. The Armenians visited a number of landmarks representing the positive Armenian historical contributions to Singapore, including Armenian Street, a main street in Central Singapore; the Straits Times, Singapores national daily newspaper, founded by Armenians; and, the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where they viewed the Singapore national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, named after its Armenian founder Agnes Joaquim. The Team also visited the Armenian Apostolic Church of St Gregory the Illuminator, the oldest Christian church in Singapore. Built in 1835, the Church will be host to a series of events to be held in March 2011 in celebration of its 175th Anniversary. To strengthen Armenian positive contributions to Singapore, the Singapore-Armenian Development Council organized visits to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National School of Singapore, the Singapore Science Park, and Singapore Management University, as well as meetings with global entrepreneurs and business leaders interested in expanding trade relations with Armenia and its Diaspora.

Under the auspices of the Games, the Mayflower Secondary School in Singapore organized an Armenian cultural week and the medal winning athletes visited the school and students. Also, the Council organized an impressive community dinner reception honoring the Armenian Olympic delegation.

In total, the Armenian delegation totaled 29 members. The Armenian team won one silver medal (Gor Minasyan, weightlifting 85+kg) and 3 bronze medals (Smbat Margaryan, weightlifting 56kg; Artak Hovhannisyan, freestyle wrestling 46kg; and Davit Ghazaryan, judo 66kg).

The Republic of Armenia is located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe; north of the Mediterranean Sea, south of the Black Sea, and west of the Caspian Sea. The California Council on Economic Education (CCEE), a leading economic and financial literacy education organization in California, announced today its newly redesigned website. The aim of the website is to be the go to place for everyoneteachers, education professionals, business and government leaders, donors, students, parents, and the general publicinterested in financial literacy and economic reasoning education for K-12 students in California. The ultimate goal is to prepare Californias students to participate in the global economy as responsible workers, consumers, savers and citizens.

For teachers, the website creates a community and a place to access no-cost and low-cost education resources for their students that are standards-based and have been vetted by classroom teachers. In addition, teachers will find professional development opportunities. For donors, the website features expanded sections on why financial literacy is important, progress on fundraising efforts, and CCEE contributors. The website also includes a new feature that makes donating online by credit card easy for individuals.

Our online visitors will now have an easier time finding the information they want and accessing it, says Laurie King, Director of Development and Strategic Planning at the California Council on Economic Education. For teachers, we have lesson plans, students contests, programs and professional development workshops that provide continuing education credits available online. The business community will now more easily be able to see how we teach economics and financial literacy to students … and visitors to our site will be able to find information on the state of financial literacy among California students as well as find out who is working with us to provide a solution for preparing all students with the skills they will need to participate in the global economy.

The website makes it easier to get involved and be part of the solution to the lack of financial know-how. The calendar section allows for online registration at CCEE events, the blog keeps you up-to-date on our current thinking and press releases recount CCEEs successes. The site was designed to add more social media as CCEE grows.

Financial Literacy Lesson Plans More Accessible

The website hosts all the California Council on Economic Educations program materials, including lesson plans, students contests, curricula for K-12 students, and teacher workshops. The site is organized to help teachers quickly find what they are looking for in Teaching Economics and it is organized by grade and topic. If a user is not sure where to look, the search engine within the site will help.

Economics for Donors discusses the need for economic and financial education among our students. It also outlines the goals of CCEEs strategic plan to reach one million students each year. The contributors that are helping to provide students with economic and financial literacy skills are highlighted.

About Us provides information about the nine economic principles that all CCEEs programs are based on, board members that guide the organization, CCEE staff, and partners throughout the state and nation that help us deliver the highest quality economic and financial literacy education to teachers and their students.

The CCEE staff worked with Spiffy Press, based in Pasadena, California to design and build this website. Key expertise provided by Spiffy Press included marketing strategy based on target audience interviews, search engine optimization, and customized wordpress architecture.
