New Open API from Extensis Leverages Digital Asset Management Across the Enterprise

(PRWEB) February 28, 2012

Extensis, a division of Celartem Inc., today unveiled a preview of Portfolio Server 10.2, the latest version of the market leading digital asset management (DAM) software. With Extensis latest release, customers can catalog additional file formats and connect their rich media assets with other business systems using Portfolio Server 10.2s new open API.

Portfolio Server helps groups of people manage and find all of their digital media in one location, and the new API offers the same benefits but to other computer systems used throughout the organization. Customers can integrate the graphic, video, and document assets and media processing tools within Portfolio Server with their other IT systems, including ecommerce systems, content management systems, websites, intranet sites, and more. For example, images and metadata managed within Portfolio Server become easily accessible from within a content management system like WordPress, or are automatically synchronized with a museums collection management system. The result is greater workflow efficiency by streamlining and integrating DAM with other business processes and IT systems.

The new API can also be used to monetize asset collections and generate new revenue streams by enabling ecommerce integration. According to Extensis customer Bob Hendriks, Managing Director, In Transit Images, Digital asset management is a critical element for our business at In Transit Images; our company and business model revolves around it entirely. The API delivers a crucial connection between our portal and our vast collection of high-quality photographs by leveraging the digital assets and workflow tools within Portfolio Server across our company and ecommerce website.

In addition to third party business system integration, having a wide variety of file format support is important to workers that need to quickly preview visual files, as well as convert digital media into other formats. Portfolio Server 10.2 offers additional file format support, including more professional video formats like DivX, XDCAM, AVC-Intra, AVCHD, and DNxHD, as well as support for searching for OCR text within PDF documents.

Australian video production agency 50 Kaliber Films relies on Portfolio Servers robust file format support to catalog video, graphic, and document formats. Evan Butson, CTO, 50 Kaliber Films noted, Migrating to Portfolio Server 10.2 from our existing DAM has not only allowed us to speed up our existing workflows, but with the added functionality and wide range of supported formats, allowed us to expand the range of services we offer.

Extensis is building on its legacy of delivering DAM solutions and professional services that help companies quickly and easily improve efficiencies and productivity within a matter of days. In 2011, Extensis released Portfolio Server 10, delivering robust iPad, tablet and video support that enabled customers the ability to access digital assets on demand and migrate from legacy systems like Apple Final Cut Server. Portfolio Server 10.2 takes this to the next level by allowing customers to catalog anything, find everything and integrate across systems.

Customers demand openness and want assurance that their investment in DAM can be leveraged in many ways- now and in the future, said Davin Kluttz, Senior Product Manager at Extensis. The advanced file support and new API in Portfolio Server 10.2 offer customers immediate gains in efficiency, and sustaining benefits as they look to easily integrate DAM functionality with other business systems.

The Portfolio Server 10.2 update will be available in spring 2012 and will be free for all Portfolio Server 10 customers. For more information about Portfolio Server 10.2 and to download a free trial, visit http://www.extensis.com/p102
