BitNami.org Packages Open Source Web Applications for Easy Installation and Configuration

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 20, 2007

The BitNami team has just announced the launch of http://www.bitnami.org, built to help spread the adoption of freely available, high quality open source web applications. BitNami Stacks are downloadable, ready-to-run packages that make it easy to get started with open source applications by automating the installation and configuration process. This allows even non-technical users to be up and running with the software in under five minutes. BitNami currently hosts Stacks for blogging, bug-tracking, ECM, forums, portals, wikis and more.

Available BitNami Stacks include DokuWiki, Drupal, Joomla!, KnowledgeTree, Liferay, Mantis, MediaWiki, Opina, phpBB, Redmine, Roller, Trac, and WordPress with others like Alfresco and Moodle coming soon.

BitNami Stacks run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, and several Solaris Stacks will be released over the coming months. Each Stack is released as open source under the terms of the Apache 2.0 License, allowing users to download and use the Stacks free of charge. BitNami users and visitors select which Stacks and software combinations will be released through polls and forums hosted on BitNami.org.

“With more than 100 posts in the forums in just a few short weeks, we’re already starting to build a community around BitNami.” says Antonio Santos, forum moderator and developer for BitNami, “We have already released specific stacks such as Trac, based on the site polls and feedback from our early users”

BitNami also offers infrastructure Stacks, including LAMP (Apache, MySQL and PHP for Linux), MAMP (AMP for Mac OS X), WAMP (AMP for Windows) and Ruby. These Stacks provide developers with easy to install distributions of the open source software many web applications require to run.

John Conroy, a journalist for CMSWire, was happy to hear about the BitNami project after struggling to get web-based open source software installed and configured. “When I first heard about the whole ‘open-source’ thing, I wanted to hug the guy who thought of it. Full power, enterprise-level software power for free?” he said. “Several hours later, still rummaging around with my FTP client, slashing at my host’s server, I wanted to chop his head off. What a shame that no one has thought of automating the deployment process so that non-technical users can actually get their system up and running. Oh wait, BitNami just did.”

BitNami Stacks can be downloaded from http://www.bitnami.org/stacks. Users can provide feedback and suggestions by visiting http://www.bitnami.org/forums.

About BitNami

The purpose of BitNami.org is to increase the adoption of open source software. Each BitNami Stack contains an open source application and all the software required to run, wrapped in an easy to use installer. This allows users to get up and running with open source in under five minutes. BitNami Stacks are independent, self-contained and relocatable, making distribution and deployment on Windows, Mac OSX and Linux a snap.

BitNami.org Hits 150,000 Downloads, Makes Open Source Apps Even Easier to Install

Alameda, CA (PRWEB) July 8, 2008

San Francisco, CA. July 8, 2008 — BitNami.org, a project dedicated to spreading open source software by making it easier to install and configure, just released a new format for its easy to install open source application stacks – BitNami Modules. The new modular architecture makes it easy to install several applications that share resources such as a database, web server and language runtime. With just a few mouse clicks, even non-technical users can quickly be up and running with applications such as Drupal, WordPress, Dokuwiki, and Mediawiki.

The BitNami project was founded in late 2007 to help spread open source to less technical users, regardless of which operating system they choose to run. The site currently features 18 application stacks, including the Alfresco, KnowledgeTree, eZ Publish, Jooma! and Drupal content management solutions, DokuWiki and MediaWiki, and the phpBB forum software. Several developer/infrastructure stacks are also available, including stacks for Django, Ruby, JRuby and AMP (Apache, MySQL and PHP.) Since launch, BitNami Stacks have been downloaded over 150,000 times from users in over 160 countries.

One of the advantages of BitNami Stacks is that they are completely self-contained and relocatable, so they do not depend on other software being present on the end user’s system. This provides an extremely fast and easy installation process, but may not be ideal for users who want to run several applications on the same server because the user would have one web server, one database and one language runtime installed for each application. BitNami Modules provide a way to install several applications that share resources like a database, web server and language runtime. Just like BitNami Stacks, the Modules can be installed in just a few mouse clicks. Users simply need to download the BitNami Platform and then select the application Modules they’d like to run on top.

“We’re very pleased with the progress we’ve made with the BitNami project over the past several months.” Said Antonio Santos, project administrator for BitNami. “It has been great to see people all over the world participating in our forums and helping to promote the project. The new modular architecture makes BitNami even more useful to our growing community.”

BitNami Stacks and Modules are freely available under the terms of the Apache 2.0 License and can be downloaded from http://www.bitnami.org/stacks.

Open Water Provides New Views Of Fall Foliage

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 17, 2009

As the leaves change, many Americans plan road trips to areas decorated with fall foliage, but views from a boat provide nature enthusiasts with a different type of scenic “drive” this season. Boaters know the best place to view autumn’s changing colors from the helm, but non-boaters may be surprised to learn they too can avoid the crowds and put a twist on the standard family outing. Fall foliage cruises across the country allow for views of picturesque waterways and shoreline panoramas blanketed with rich seasonal colors.

“There’s something about taking in vibrant fall foliage against the sparkle of the open water that can’t be beat,” said Ellen Hopkins, spokesperson for Discover Boating, the recreational boating industry’s national awareness program. “Since more than 90 percent of Americans live within an hour’s drive of water, it’s also more accessible than you think. We have highlighted a few of our favorite scenic waterways that provide prime opportunities, for boat owners and non-owners alike, to enjoy all the season has to offer from the water.”

Discover Boating surveyed a network of boating experts and people who love life on the water to compile the following list of top locales, many of which offer cruising, rental and charter options, to view fall colors from a boat:

New Open API from Extensis Leverages Digital Asset Management Across the Enterprise

(PRWEB) February 28, 2012

Extensis, a division of Celartem Inc., today unveiled a preview of Portfolio Server 10.2, the latest version of the market leading digital asset management (DAM) software. With Extensis latest release, customers can catalog additional file formats and connect their rich media assets with other business systems using Portfolio Server 10.2s new open API.

Portfolio Server helps groups of people manage and find all of their digital media in one location, and the new API offers the same benefits but to other computer systems used throughout the organization. Customers can integrate the graphic, video, and document assets and media processing tools within Portfolio Server with their other IT systems, including ecommerce systems, content management systems, websites, intranet sites, and more. For example, images and metadata managed within Portfolio Server become easily accessible from within a content management system like WordPress, or are automatically synchronized with a museums collection management system. The result is greater workflow efficiency by streamlining and integrating DAM with other business processes and IT systems.

The new API can also be used to monetize asset collections and generate new revenue streams by enabling ecommerce integration. According to Extensis customer Bob Hendriks, Managing Director, In Transit Images, Digital asset management is a critical element for our business at In Transit Images; our company and business model revolves around it entirely. The API delivers a crucial connection between our portal and our vast collection of high-quality photographs by leveraging the digital assets and workflow tools within Portfolio Server across our company and ecommerce website.

In addition to third party business system integration, having a wide variety of file format support is important to workers that need to quickly preview visual files, as well as convert digital media into other formats. Portfolio Server 10.2 offers additional file format support, including more professional video formats like DivX, XDCAM, AVC-Intra, AVCHD, and DNxHD, as well as support for searching for OCR text within PDF documents.

Australian video production agency 50 Kaliber Films relies on Portfolio Servers robust file format support to catalog video, graphic, and document formats. Evan Butson, CTO, 50 Kaliber Films noted, Migrating to Portfolio Server 10.2 from our existing DAM has not only allowed us to speed up our existing workflows, but with the added functionality and wide range of supported formats, allowed us to expand the range of services we offer.

Extensis is building on its legacy of delivering DAM solutions and professional services that help companies quickly and easily improve efficiencies and productivity within a matter of days. New Open API from Extensis Leverages Digital Asset Management across the Organisation

Northampton, UK (PRWEB UK) 1 March 2012

Extensis, a division of Celartem Inc., today unveils a preview of Portfolio Server 10.2, the latest version of the market leading digital asset management (DAM) software. With Extensis latest release, customers can catalogue additional file formats and connect their rich media assets with other business systems using Portfolio Server 10.2s new open API.

Portfolio Server helps people manage their digital media in one location, and the new API offers the same benefits but to other IT systems used throughout the organisation. Customers can integrate their graphic, video, and document assets and media processing tools within Portfolio Server with their other IT systems. These include ecommerce and content management systems, websites, intranet sites, and more. For example, images and metadata managed within Portfolio Server can be accessed from within a content management system like WordPress, or are automatically synchronised with a museums collection management system. The result is increased efficiency through streamlining and integrating DAM with other business processes and IT systems.

The new API can be implemented to generate new revenue streams from asset collections with ecommerce.

In addition to third party business system integration, having a wide variety of file format support is essential for the quick preview of visual files, as well as converting digital media into other formats. Portfolio Server 10.2 offers additional file format support, including more professional video formats like DivX, XDCAM, AVC-Intra, AVCHD, and DNxHD, as well as support for searching for OCR text within PDF documents.

Australian Wordpress Development Company to Open in Geelong

Geelong, Victoria (PRWEB) December 23, 2011

Spanky Media, a leading Australian WordPress Development Company, have just announced they plan to begin operations in Geelong early in 2012.

Head of Development, Kirk OConnor, says, After seeing some of the success we have been able to deliver to our Melbourne customers, we feel the time is right to be able to extend our reach to Geelong businesses.

Geelong has a very vibrant business community, with an emphasis on manufacturing, retail, health care and construction. Many of these businesses are struggling due to the downturn in the economy, and OConnor believes that these same businesses are missing out on many opportunities by not having a website that is not only built to convert into sales, yet is also built to be found in Google.

WordPress is like no other platform on the market. Its affordable, looks great, and best of all it is loved by Google and has loads of built in features that can allow it to outrank most other platforms.

Originally a blogging platform, WordPress has come a long way in the last few years as the tool of choice for many of the worlds leading websites.

OConnor goes on to say, The beauty of WordPress is not only is it super affordable to create a new website with, it is also incredibly easy for anyone to update and maintain. That means no more expensive bills from your web design agency.

Geelong businesses have seen many dark days over the years, and the impact Ford Motor Company of its all too regular downsizing has not helped. With the cuts at Ford, many past employees have started their own small business.

These small businesses that have opened are struggling to get leads and customers, and as Australia turns to the Internet to do their research and shopping, and business that does not seriously have a professional presence online is in threat of failure.

Spanky Media is Australias leading WordPress Development Company, and they have premium WordPress websites from just $ 495.

SpaghettiBowl Now Open and Ready to Dish out a Load of Traffic Goodness

Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) April 18, 2012

Its hard to come up with a common denominator between an Italian trattoria and the world of Internet marketing, but thanks to an intricate map used to lead traffic to websites, they now share an element. Dubbed as the Spaghetti Bowl, the online traffic plans cute and whimsical name belies its genius. Its a brilliant traffic-generating strategy, and SpaghettiBowl.com offers a complete done-for-you service that has been tried, tested and proven very effective.

Online businesses should be easier and you can actually win, but how do you win this traffic game? How do you figure it out fast? Matthew Winters of SpaghettiBowl.com poses these questions. He points out, No matter whether youre a service, affiliate, or product business online, you need to be in front of Google and social web traffic. In fact, the more you get in front of them, the more your revenue increases. You can actually control this, and thats where we step in.

SpaghettiBowl involves bringing in traffic from places like Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, article directories and web 2.0 sites like WordPress, HubPages and Squidoo. This causes your website to have the Buy Now button clicked more often leading to increased revenues, explains Winters.

SpaghettiBowl.com may be a newly launched site, but the business has been on the web since 2005. Weve done a lot of testing and development, and the system that we created to get quality content in front of great quality websites is super effective. The SpaghettiBowl success rate remained unaffected by the updates in Googles algorithm; in fact, reported results were even better in the midst of all the online trouble brought forth by the most recent changes from Google.

The SpaghettiBowl team is made up of article writers, video editors, press release writers, web developers, designers, and support. They collaborate towards the creation and distribution of original quality content that result in massive online exposure for the client. Their traffic services are offered in the following packages: small pack, large pack, and massive pack. It also offers the Authority Builder Program, which is decidedly an industry innovation that has the ability to give a website ultimate exposure through a custom-made infographic.

Winters assures that the SpaghettiBowl web traffic service works on most English-language, Google-indexed websites. Interested parties can get started by viewing the comparison chart of the different packages to determine which one to order.

Open Source Content Management Systems Offer Wider Range of Functionality for Horton Group Clients

Nashville, Tenn. (PRWEB) July 04, 2012

Open source refers to software that it is distributed freely and additionally offers access to the products design – essentially opening the source code to collaboration and further ingenuity from outside developers. Horton has taken note of the growing popularity of this type of web development software and has embraced open source CMS as valuable resources for offering clients better marketing and advertising tools.

A community of developers working together to add more utility into a content management system leads to the creation of invaluable tools for businesses and organizations seeking to build a better online presence. On top of providing clients with a means to manage their own content Horton Group also gives clients access to website management tools that are constantly improving. Open source software allows websites the potential to always change and evolve along with a growing library of programming technology.

The majority of Horton Group websites are developed on Drupal, one of the most popular CMS platforms available. With one of the largest and most dedicated online development communities, a few of the websites built on Drupal include big brands like Twitter and Nike. Even the website for The Whitehouse – the executive branch of the United States government – is built on the Drupal platform. Horton Group also uses WordPress as one of their main development platforms because of its simplicity and user friendly interface. Horton Group believes the employment of basic but innovative open source CMS helps clients keep content fresh and relevant – websites become less static and more interactive.

A recent article posted to business2community.com states that more businesses will increasingly begin to adopt open source content management software because of the multiple benefits it offers. However, Horton Group prefers the use of open source content management systems for more reasons than their widespread popularity. Open source software is great because it allows us to offer a variety of options, but also promotes a strong knit development community that in the end will ultimately benefit the client, notes Horton Group Lead Developer Matt Smith. Most open source content management systems like Drupal are free, which allow us to pass bigger savings onto our customers. This gives us the capability to offer clients more diverse programming options at lower costs.

About Horton Group

Since its beginnings in 1996, designing and developing functional websites that provide customers with access to tools they can use to easily update and change content has been a core part of Horton Group’s mission. Over the past 16 years of operation however Horton Group has branched out to include a greater depth of services such as search engine optimization and social media management. For those looking to strengthen brands and reach a wider audience they also provide media buying, email and mobile marketing services.
