Feedster Launches Developer Network with iPod Giveaway

Club Develops Social Media Network

The Camping and Caravanning Club has expanded its social media network by adding a Facebook account and a WordPress blog to its online range of services.

The Club already has an account with micro-blogging site, Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/campandcaravan) but has since strengthened its online resources to help increase engagement with members and non-members whilst driving traffic through to its own website.

The additional social media channels will provide campers and caravanners with key opportunities to learn about The Clubs latest news, events and offers whilst also providing an outlet for people to express their opinions and discuss all aspects of the great outdoors.

The Clubs Marketing and Communications Director, Matthew Eastlake, is enthusiastic about the progression.

Teams Members are up and running quickly with columns for brand monitoring, keyword searches, list following and more — allowing Teams to concentrate on tracking conversations, spreading messages, and monitoring what works with on-board statistics.

Once assigned to a social network, Team Members can post messages, create additional views and columns, and interact with the details of social networks. Plus, Team Members can add ad hoc social accounts for external teams or personal use, and create their own Teams, all without setting up a separate HootSuite account.

Talk to Everyone

Team Members can also add RSS feeds allowing a auto-updates to social networks whenever a blog, photostream, or other news feed is updated. Users can select a publishing interval, destination social network, and even pre-pend the updates with custom messaging.

Another tool to assist group communication is the “Reply to All” feature. A single click will pre-populate a message with all recipients of the original message without requiring copy-and-pasting or memorizing Twitter handles. This highly-requested feature offers another way to participate in the social conversation while saving keystrokes and time.

Real Life Network is an organization connecting the international community to the real Germany. Their goal is to provide real life guides and resources to international travelers to Germany to allow these travelers to experience attractions, events, people, and places in Germany that you won’t find in the guidebooks or from a travel agent.

Real Life also supports and organizes Language Immersion programs to help foreigners learn the German language via intensive courses and immersion within the German culture.

Forward Inc. developed their site to match these endeavors, including a language translation module that automatically translates the site between German and English. The sites admins can either edit the translation themselves, or leverage Google Translator to make the translations for them. On the front end of the site, a visitor need only click on the English or German flag at the top of the page to see each language.

Not that this front end technology hasn’t been seen before, but this fairly new method of managing languages on the back end makes things much quicker and easier for content admins (and easier on web developers as well).

The module used was a plugin for WordPress called qTranslate and a method called ‘poedit’ was also used to translate some of the non-body text content such as the calendar labels found on the Real Life site.

These new WordPress technologies will make life easier (and cheaper) for many website owners wishing to translate their sites and reach new international markets, and will allow developers to provide language translation to their clients in a much more user friendly and affordable way.
