BitNami and Red Hat Bring One-Click Web App Deployment to the Amazon Cloud

San Francisco, Ca (PRWEB) February 16, 2012

BitNami, developer of the BitNami library of easy to install web applications, and Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, announced today that they have collaborated to simplify the deployment of popular open source software to the Amazon Cloud as Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based Amazon Machine Images (AMIs).

The newly released AMIs combine BitNamis expertise in packaging and configuring web applications with Red Hats enterprise-class Linux operating system, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, making the AMIs appealing for use in both development and production environments. Using the BitNami-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs, developers and systems administrators can deploy applications such as WordPress, MediaWiki, Drupal, SugarCRM, and Moodle to the Amazon Cloud in one click. The first batch of applications focuses on PHP applications running on the native Red Hat Enterprise Linux stack, and JBoss-powered applications will follow.

BitNami has deep expertise in packaging open source software to make it easy to deploy, said Vijay Sarathy, Director, ISV Ecosystem Cloud Business Unit at Red Hat. Combining the BitNami-packaged applications with Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs gives users a quick and reliable way to get their favorite open source applications up and running in the cloud.

The AMIs are available at the same hourly rates as the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs, so there is no additional cost to users to use the BitNami-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs to run their favorite open source applications. As with the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs, users will have access to AWS premium support with back-end support from Red Hat and access to repository updates from Red Hat to keep their cloud servers patched and up-to-date. The BitNami-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs are available across all Amazon Cloud regions, enabling users to deploy them in the US, Europe, Asia, and South America.

Building BitNami AMIs integrated with Red Hat Enterprise Linux provides users with the ease of the BitNami deployment experience as well as the reliability and support that comes with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, said Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, CTO of BitRock, the developer of BitNami. This combined offering benefits both BitNami and Red Hat Enterprise Linux users by making it easier to run open source apps on Red Hat Enterprise Linux in the cloud.

Does a New Trend Bring New Hope for Old Businesses? Controversial Survey Shows that Online Shoppers Spend the Bulk of their Money with Local Retailers

Perth, Western Australia (PRWEB) September 17, 2012

Recently, Telstra surveyed over 800 Australians about their online shopping habits. The survey produced some surprising results. Up to now, prevailing wisdom has indicated that online shopping is dominated by huge national and international chains. Often, this opinion has demoralised small businesses, and has made them feel as though they dont have the resources to compete with the big box retailers.

This survey, though, could be a game-changer for smaller, local, bricks and mortar businesses. According to the survey, nearly 70% of online buyers make their purchases from local retailers. The research also showed that 89% of those who bought online also made purchases in-store, and almost one out of three purchased goods are from the same retailer from whom one had purchased online.

Retail industry executive Gareth Jude of Telstra feels that the report should provide a lot of hope for bricks and mortar retailers. Jude cited the survey as being the first to focus solely on a market segment known as omnishoppers. This segment uses both the web and mobile phones for research, selection, and purchasing.

According to Jude, What customers really want is not either a physical store or onlinethey want a blended experience Its only the bricks and mortar retailers that can give them that. Of all the omnishoppers surveyed, close to 70% of their money went to Australian sites. The average shopper in the survey spent close to $ 2200 shopping online.

Kirk OConnor, Director of Development for Spanky Media, a Perth website designer and developer, is very enthusiastic about the ramifications of the survey: This survey should give hope to every local bricks and mortar business in Australia. A lot of small shops didnt make it through the last few years, but those that did should be excited about this survey.

According to OConnor, small business owners may think they cant compete with big business, but they can provide a more complete experience than a large international company can. Australian shoppers can do their research online, and then come into the local store to see or try out the merchandise. Usually, smaller shops have someone there to answer questions in person, and are always happy to do so.

OConnor outlined what small businesses should do to take advantage of this trend: If you dont have a website yet, have us develop one for you, even if its a simple WordPress website. If you have a website and have neglected it, start paying attention. Finally, you must have your website optimised for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

OConnor concluded, The numbers dont lie. Consumers may shop online, but many of them still want to talk to a human being face to face before buying. Local businesses with great websites give online shoppers the best of both worlds.

Spanky Media is a Perth website development company that can help your small business maximise its revenue by bolstering your online presence. Forward Inc Web Development uses qTranslate and WordPress to help Real Life Network bring the real Germany to the World

Boston, MA (Vocus) September 27, 2010

Real Life Network is an organization connecting the international community to the real Germany. Their goal is to provide real life guides and resources to international travelers to Germany to allow these travelers to experience attractions, events, people, and places in Germany that you won’t find in the guidebooks or from a travel agent.

Real Life also supports and organizes Language Immersion programs to help foreigners learn the German language via intensive courses and immersion within the German culture.

Forward Inc. developed their site to match these endeavors, including a language translation module that automatically translates the site between German and English. The sites admins can either edit the translation themselves, or leverage Google Translator to make the translations for them. On the front end of the site, a visitor need only click on the English or German flag at the top of the page to see each language.

Not that this front end technology hasn’t been seen before, but this fairly new method of managing languages on the back end makes things much quicker and easier for content admins (and easier on web developers as well).

The module used was a plugin for WordPress called qTranslate and a method called ‘poedit’ was also used to translate some of the non-body text content such as the calendar labels found on the Real Life site.

These new WordPress technologies will make life easier (and cheaper) for many website owners wishing to translate their sites and reach new international markets, and will allow developers to provide language translation to their clients in a much more user friendly and affordable way.
