BitNami Releases Virtual Appliances for SugarCRM, Wordpress, Alfresco, Drupal and More

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 30, 2009

BitRock Inc, the leading provider of cross platform deployment tools and services, today announced the release of all of the BitNami Stacks as SUSE-based virtual appliances. BitNami users can now download ready-to-run BitNami Appliances for open source applications such as SugarCRM, Drupal, WordPress, Alfresco and many others. The appliances are available free of charge from the BitNami project website, BitNami.org.

Now BitNami users have a choice of downloading an easy-to-use, self-contained installer or a virtual appliance for over 30 open source application stacks. Both deployment options make it fast and easy to get up and running with freely available applications for customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise content management (ECM), blogs, wikis, bug-tracking and more.

The BitNami application appliances showcase BitRock’s new virtual appliance creation service, an extension of the Custom Stacks Service it has been offering to industry-leading software vendors for the past 4 years. BitRock has developed technology to interface with SUSE Studio and automatically generate virtual appliances from BitRock-created application stacks. With the new virtual appliance creation service, BitRock clients can cost-effectively offer their users a choice of deployment options (native installers or virtual appliances), so they can choose the one that best meets their needs.

“We are delighted to see leading companies such as BitRock choose openSUSE and SUSE Linux Enterprise to transform the way they package and distribute their software offerings,” said Kevin Pereau, director, ISV Ecosystems, Novell. “Their support for the SUSE Appliance Program from Novell is a smart example of how ISVs can quickly deliver existing applications to physical, virtual and cloud computing environments; reduce sales cycles and pursue new business opportunities.”

“Over the past several months, we have been seeing increased interest in virtual appliances from both our commercial clients and the BitNami community.” said Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, founder and CTO of BitRock. “We’re happy to be able to provide both groups with a choice of deployment options, so users can select the one that works best for their particular environment.”

BitNami Stacks Now Available as Amazon Machine Images

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 11, 2009

BitNami.org, a website that simplifies the deployment of popular open source web applications, announced today that it has released all of the BitNami Stacks as Amazon Machine Images, or “AMIs”. Now, users can deploy applications like Alfresco, WordPress, JasperSoft and Joomla! on the Amazon Elastic Compute (EC2). EC2 allows users to run applications on infrastructure rented from Amazon and pay only for the time and bandwidth they use.

Since 2007, BitNami has been providing pre-configured, ready to run software bundles, called “Stacks”, for wikis, blogs, customer relationship management, bug-tracking and other applications. Until now, the Stacks have been available in two formats: self-contained installers or virtual machines. The new BitNami AMIs offer users a third deployment option, Amazon’s EC2, so they only pay for the compute time that the application is actually running without any upfront cost. All three options options completely automate the installation and configuration of an application and its dependencies.

“Jaspersoft is very pleased that BitRock chose JasperServer as the basis for BitNami’s only BI Solution”, said Mike Moody, Sr. Vice President, Product Development and Customer Support, Jaspersoft. “BitRock’s extensive experience in creating installers for a variety of configurations, including Native, Virtual and Cloud environments, greatly simplifies the process of installing and deploying JasperServer. BitRock and Jaspersoft have maintained a strong partnership over the last 3 years and we continue to rely on BitRock’s installer technology in our own native product releases.”

“The cloud offers users a great way to run applications for testing, development, scaling and more,” shared Erica Brescia, CEO of BitRock, the company sponsoring BitNami. “The BitNami AMIs provide ready-to-run images that can be deployed on EC2 in an instant, with no set up or configuration required.”

BitNami Releases Ubuntu-based Virtual Appliances, Makes Open Source Applications Easy to Deploy

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 16, 2010

BitNami, the project that simplifies the process of deploying web applications natively, virtually and in the cloud, has released Ubuntu-based virtual appliances for all of the BitNami-packaged applications. Using the new, freely-available appliances, BitNami users can deploy ready-to-run virtual machine images of applications for CRM, bug tracking, document management, business intelligence and more in minutes.

The BitNami virtual appliances contain a minimal version of the Ubuntu Linux operating system and a fully installed and configured BitNami application stack. Users simply need to download, uncompress and run the appliance of their choice. In minutes, they can be up and running with open source applications such as Drupal, Joomla! WordPress, Alfresco and many others. Development environments for LAMP, Ruby on Rails and Django are also available.

Ubuntu is arguably the worlds most popular Linux distribution, said Erica Brescia, CEO of BitRock, the company behind BitNami. The new BitNami appliances make it easy for people of any skill level to deploy their favorite applications on top of their favorite operating system in a virtual environment.

The Ubuntu-based BitNami virtual appliances will run on the VMWare Player and VirtualBox hypervisors, both of which are available free of charge. Using virtualized instances of the BitNami Stacks enables users to run the applications in an environment completely isolated from the rest of their system. The virtual machine images can be stopped and restarted on demand, so users can run applications only when they need them.

Ubuntu and openSUSE-based appliances, as well as native installers, Amazon AMIs and GoGrid Server Images (GSIs) are available from: http://bitnami.org/stacks

BitNami and Red Hat Bring One-Click Web App Deployment to the Amazon Cloud

San Francisco, Ca (PRWEB) February 16, 2012

BitNami, developer of the BitNami library of easy to install web applications, and Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, announced today that they have collaborated to simplify the deployment of popular open source software to the Amazon Cloud as Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based Amazon Machine Images (AMIs).

The newly released AMIs combine BitNamis expertise in packaging and configuring web applications with Red Hats enterprise-class Linux operating system, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, making the AMIs appealing for use in both development and production environments. Using the BitNami-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs, developers and systems administrators can deploy applications such as WordPress, MediaWiki, Drupal, SugarCRM, and Moodle to the Amazon Cloud in one click. The first batch of applications focuses on PHP applications running on the native Red Hat Enterprise Linux stack, and JBoss-powered applications will follow.

BitNami has deep expertise in packaging open source software to make it easy to deploy, said Vijay Sarathy, Director, ISV Ecosystem Cloud Business Unit at Red Hat. Combining the BitNami-packaged applications with Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs gives users a quick and reliable way to get their favorite open source applications up and running in the cloud.

The AMIs are available at the same hourly rates as the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs, so there is no additional cost to users to use the BitNami-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs to run their favorite open source applications. As with the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs, users will have access to AWS premium support with back-end support from Red Hat and access to repository updates from Red Hat to keep their cloud servers patched and up-to-date. The BitNami-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs are available across all Amazon Cloud regions, enabling users to deploy them in the US, Europe, Asia, and South America.

Building BitNami AMIs integrated with Red Hat Enterprise Linux provides users with the ease of the BitNami deployment experience as well as the reliability and support that comes with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, said Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, CTO of BitRock, the developer of BitNami. This combined offering benefits both BitNami and Red Hat Enterprise Linux users by making it easier to run open source apps on Red Hat Enterprise Linux in the cloud.
