San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 2, 2008

BitRock announced today the addition of Solaris support for the easy to install open source software packages on http://www.bitnami.org, a site built to help spread the adoption of freely available, high quality open source web applications. BitNami Stacks are ready-to-run packages that make it easy to get started with open source applications by automating the installation and configuration process. BitNami Stacks for Solaris include WordPress, Drupal, Joomla! and MediaWiki. SAMPStack, an easy to install distribution of Apache, MySQL and PHP for Solaris, is also available from BitNami.org. Each Stack is released as open source under the terms of the Apache 2.0 License, allowing users to download and use the Stacks free of charge.

BitNami also hosts several other stacks for Linux, Windows and OS X that are not yet available for Solaris, including: DokuWiki, KnowledgeTree, Liferay, Alfresco, phpBB, Redmine, Roller, Trac, and WordPress. In addition to the BitNami application stacks, several developer stacks are available for frameworks such as Django, Ruby on Rails and JRuby. Solaris versions of the BitNami developer and application stacks will be released over the next few months.

“We’re happy to have people from all over the world coming to BitNami to learn about and download different open source applications.” said Beltran Rueda, forum moderator and developer for BitNami. “We’ve gotten some great feedback in the forums and are looking forward to getting more people involved with the project.”

BitNami Stacks can be downloaded from http://www.bitnami.org/stacks. Users can provide feedback and suggestions by visiting http://www.bitnami.org/forums.

About BitNami

The purpose of BitNami.org is to increase the adoption of open source software. BitNami Stacks are independent, self-contained and relocatable, making distribution and deployment on Windows, Mac OSX, Linux and Solaris a snap.

Plano, TX (PRWEB) August 24, 2010

Crossvale, Inc. (http://www.crossvale.com), a leading provider of tailored integration, automation and portal solutions, announces President Jason Sharp will speak on multi-departmental authoring in Drupal at OpenCamp 2010, Aug. 27-29. OpenCamp is the Southwests first multi-platform web conference, combining Drupal, WordPress, Joomla, .NET, social media, and SEO expertise.

Jason Sharp, co-founder and president of Crossvale, Inc. will present Multi-Departmental Authoring in Drupal, beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. This intermediate-level presentation offers an effective and scalable solution to a common need for large enterprises as requested on drupal.org forums: authorizing multiple groups of authors to control subsections of a multi-departmental site. The session will illustrate how authors of the same department can edit, review and publish the same subset of content without overstepping content from a different department. Sharp, an Oracle ACE and founding BEA Technical Director, has introduced innovations such as: SOA, enterprise portals, BPM, business-to-business integration, and EAI to major comanies worldwide.

We have had the opportunity to design and deploy private enterprise portals since 2003, refining best practices and expertise for the special cases of these portals, said Sharp. Intranet portals for large corporations and institutions involve a slew of security policies, collaboration scenarios, content types, and legacy system integrations not typically applicable to external websites focused on public access. It is a privilege to speak at OpenCamp this year and present some of our Drupal techniques based on a comprehensive case study.

The presentation content will highlight a rich Drupal 6 case study in which an intranet portal serving 5000 employees for a national media company headquartered in North Texas required support for authoring content across its 14 departments. Attendees will walk away with specific knowledge about key Drupal modules and best practices for supporting multiple non-technical authors of large Drupal deployments.

As previously announced, Crossvale is also a platinum sponsor of OpenCamp. The Company has championed the use of open source technologies since their inception in 2001. Crossvale CEO Conor Brankin stated, Our sponsorship is a tremendous opportunity for Crossvale to give back to the open source community.

OpenCamps sessions cover a broad range from social media to technical development, content creation, revenue generation and more. Attendees will be guided by some of the most experienced practitioners in the country, which will be advantageous for all. In addition, Calais 2.0 marks the debut of Thomson Reuters’ breakthrough Calais Marmoset toolkit. More than a million sites around the world are powered by Drupal CMS, and the numbers keep increasing. MailChimp Announces Expanded Drupal Integration

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 28, 2011

MailChimp today announced a new integration with the Drupal Content Management System as part of the MailChimp Integration Fund. This comprehensive addition to Drupal brings MailChimp’s feature set directly into the Drupal user interface. Now Drupal owners can also send transactional emails using MailChimps STS solution.

This integration was developed by ThinkShout, and represents a full reworking of their 4-year-old MailChimp plugin for Drupal 6. The Drupal 7 incarnation is the result of a complete redesign that takes full advantage of updates to Drupal’s features and API, along with updates to MailChimp’s API during the intervening 4 years.

After install, there’s just a quick user MailChimp API key input, and the integration is ready to go. It supports an unlimited amount of mailing lists, anonymous user signup, increased subscription options (such as signup during site registration), and support for MailChimp’s Simple Transactional Solution that allows for sending and tracking email via Amazon SES within Drupal. MailChimp STS overlays MailChimp’s tracking and interface on Amazon’s Simple Email Service, so users benefit from Amazon’s reliable delivery and massive scale, all channeled through MailChimp’s familiar interface. The front end is all MailChimp, and the back end is a lot of Amazon, and users can do it all within Drupal. This plugin also features a complete User Interface overhaul that unclutters workspace and makes it easier to work with individual lists, while managing the plugin’s newly expanded list support. This module will continue to expand its features per user feedback, and compliments the array of features Drupal already offers to users.

Drupal is a completely customizable and scalable CMS solution that stresses its constantly growing list of plugins and modules. It both free and open source, and has become that much more complete by adding full email management via MailChimp. It is designed with point and click users in mind, but is a framework from which developers have added over 6,000 additions to its core features. It is fully scalable, supporting single user blogs up to large scale enterprises. Users of Drupal include popular brands, MTV UK and Warner Brothers Records, brainy brands, The Economist and Popular Science, and even brainier brands, MIT and Harvard.

This plugin will be continuously maintained by ThinkShout and supported by MailChimp. ThinkShout are planning a series of expansions that include Analytics 360 support, campaign creation from within Drupal, and E-Commerce 360 integration.

concrete5 Sets Sights on Drupal and Joomla with Powerful New CMS

San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2009

concrete CMS, developer of next-generation open source solutions for web sites, today announced general availability of concrete5, the latest version of its popular open source Content Management System (CMS). concrete5 combines the ease-of-use of a blogging platform with the flexibility and power of a web development platform. To date, thousands of advertising and creative agencies and web developers around the world have downloaded early versions of concrete5 and used the technology to quickly and inexpensively build sophisticated web sites that can be updated by end users.

New features in the GA version of concrete5 include:

Upgraded file manager: includes a completely revamped interface and improved searching and ordering.
Picnik integration: tight integration with the online image editor picnik.com enables users to crop, resize and make other alterations to images right from within the browser.
Automated site augmentation: users can shop for themes and add-ons in the concrete5 marketplace and have them automatically installed on a 3rd-party site without touching a line of code or even opening FTP.
Advanced permissions: users can grant administrators access to work with all files, or just the files they’ve uploaded, and limit which file types can be added by which users. Individual files can now have their own permissions and passwords.
New help system: Help now connects concrete5.org directly, returning results to questions and requests in real time. Additional help can be requested directly through the interface.
concrete5 provides a flexible, powerful and streamlined framework for developing enterprise-quality web sites. concrete5′s block-based architecture gives developers a “playing with Legos” experience to building and extending web sites, with few limits to what can be done from a design or build perspective. concrete5 is unique as it was built from the ground up for in-context editing, giving site owners a toolbar that enables them to make edits directly on the page they want to update. Independent web developers and creative agencies are able to build client sites, quickly train end users on making updates, and then hand the site off to the client to maintain and update themselves.

“As long-time web developers, we saw a real need in the market for a platform that was strong enough for geeks, but made for marketing. Developers want flexibility and power; site owners want to be able to update their own sites. This is why we developed concrete5,” said Franz Maruna, founder and CEO of concrete CMS. “The feedback we’ve gotten from our users has been tremendous – we hear time and again that concrete5 is allowing them to work faster, close more business and improve client satisfaction.”

Easier than Drupal, More Powerful Than WordPress

Frye/Wiles, a creative web design and branding agency based in Riverside, California, discovered concrete5 when they were researching ways to build web sites that would enable clients to update their own sites. The agency had investigated open source content management systems like Drupal and Joomla, but they found these systems were too complex for their clients to use, while blogging systems such as WordPress weren’t powerful enough to build sophisticated sites. Frye/Wiles began using concrete5, and they have now migrated nearly all of their web development over to concrete5; to date, they have completed four sites using the platform, including meadowviewipa.com and angiesworld.com, and have several others in development.

“concrete5 has been a massive time and money saver for our business. concrete5 allows our small team of web designers to build complex sites quickly and easily. But most importantly, concrete5 really empowers our clients to take the reins of their own web sites,” said Robert Frye, Founder and Creative Director of Frye/Wiles. “Our clients are thrilled with this streamlined, modern way of doing web development because it reduces their costs and makes managing their web sites really easy. In turn, our agency is able to offer the type of service our clients have been wanting for years and turn around projects more quickly, and that means more repeat projects and word-of-mouth referrals.”

Fast Development, Simple Updating

Extreme Ice Survey (EIS), an environmental photography project by award-winning nature photographer James Balog, also needed a sophisticated web site with a simple updating process. EIS wanted to integrate Google Earth into the fabric of their site, overlaying EIS footage and photos over Google Earth satellite maps. This couldn’t be done in EIS’s existing Flash-based site, so the team began looking for an HTML-based content management solution that would allow them to build the sophisticated site they needed and would also allow for easy, automated posting of photos from the project’s 26 time-lapse cameras. The site also needed to integrate real-time blogging functionality so that James Balog and the wider community could add comments and thoughts to the site.

EIS chose concrete5 as the foundation for their new site. The EIS team appreciated concrete5 for its intuitive interface and ease of use, as well as the ability to apply different “themes” with the click of a mouse. With concrete5, EIS now has a state-of-the-art web site that its non-technical team can update continuously with live photo feeds from the 26 cameras, blog posts and other real-time content.

“I’ve used Drupal and Joomla on client projects in the past, and I found these platforms to be inflexible and difficult to theme. A site like EIS’s would have taken significantly longer to develop using Drupal or other platforms and would have involved a lot of client training,” said Bryce Tugwell of Fusestudios Media, developers of the EIS web site. “concrete5 provides a very powerful toolset right out of the driveway. Using concrete5, we were able to integrate the design very quickly and had our site up and running in under two weeks.”

Climbing the Ladder of Success Drupal has Arrived, Ahead of Wordpress and Joomla

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 23, 2010

WordPress, Joomla and Drupal have thus far been seen to be the three most popular open source Content Management Systems in use on the Internet today. However, things have now changed at least, the order of popularity is very definitely changing and rapidly! Drupal, which arrived on the scene circa 2006, is a rising high class threat to the others, especially with the latest release a premium Drupal theme ST Nagara, designed by SymphonyThemes.com .

If we place ST Nagara under the ‘Systems microscope’ we find a quality clone of the well-established BBC system. So what’s so good about that? Simply, but not solely, it takes the best of BBC and completes the rest with a consistent look. This enables the user to enjoy a smart grid base layout, enriched typography and the various colour options of ST Nagara (see the demo of Nagara). The British Broadcasting Corporation, well known for many facets of communication for more than eighty years, has a magazines publishing division that now uses Drupal on its several websites.

WHAT CAN YOU CREATE WITH DRUPAL?

That’s easy…from a simple personal homepage to a full company website Drupal provides you with the tool to create anything from a basic home page to a sophisticated commercial entity, Weblog, Dating Website or whatever your favourite type of website might be. There’s almost no limit or restriction on your creative ability with Drupal. With heaps of themes and modules Drupal and ST Nagara the sky’s the limit and the only boundary is your own imagination.

THE RISE

Drupal’s rise to the top is due in large part to the fact that more web designers are now choosing Drupal to use in the development of their more detailed and comprehensive designs. Once they discovered the ease with which Drupal can be applied to choose the ‘use-right-away-templates’ and then to develop websites via these premade tools it became ‘no contest’. Drupal can be the first choice for beginners and experts alike.

So, if you are just starting out as a web developer or you’ve been in the Internet business for years you couldn’t do better than move in with Drupal and the Drupal theme ST Nagara. Together they will show you the way to appealing and successful websites. At the same time they make it very easy to work up a great site that will be more likely to do for you just what you want it to all you have to do is to get alongside what has been described as the easiest Content Management System that’s alive and kicking on the world wide web.

The fact that Drupal is a free modular CMS makes the system even more incredible. In this day of the almighty dollar being just that almighty, to be able to enjoy a FREE option in website tools and, at the same time, to have these tools of the highest quality is amazing!

The added bonus that the entire Drupal framework is open source and therefore freely available to everyone is yet another feather in the Drupal cap. When we consider the raison d’etre for the Internet’s existence, that of communication, we have to place Drupal at the top of the pile.
