Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs Campaign Finds International Interest and Support

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 2, 2006

Today the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs campaign, aimed at getting one million people to stop and reevaluate the medications they are taking, reported that interest in the initiative is coming from a wide array of countries around the globe. Though 79 percent of the inquires about the initiative are coming from the United States; the campaign is getting interest from people in the industrial nations of the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and France. Beyond the major developed countries, the long tail of interest in the initiative extends to 71 countries around the world including Japan, India, Romania, Jordan, Brazil, Turkey, Qatar, Spain Sweden, Mexico, Korea, China and South Africa.

The fact that 21 percent of the 15,000 inquiries weve received during the pre-launch have come from outside the U.S. underscores the global nature of the problem, said Dr Gregg Tefft, co-founder of the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs campaign. As we take the campaign online this week, we welcome supporters in all of these countries.

During the month of October, the initiative aims to get one million people and one million parents to take a second look at the prescription medications they are taking and giving their children. Participants will be encouraged to download a form that allows them to thoughtfully evaluate the drugs they are taking or giving to their children. The form collects specific information from their prescribing physician, pharmacist or healthcare provider and requests the providers signature attesting that they have fully informed the patient or parent of the risks and benefits of the prescribed medication, as well as non-drug alternatives.

Coalition members have declared October “Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs Month” and have scheduled a conference in Washington, D.C. on October 7th to officially launch the campaign. Information about the conference is available at http://www.icspp.org

The core coalition is already comprised of international supporters, said Dr. Dominick Riccio, psychologist and chairman of the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs campaign. The Internet has made it possible to more easily identify and reach global supporters, and to track with high levels of precision where the campaign is resonating most, said Riccio.

Organizations and individuals who want to participate in the campaign may go to any of the following Web sites, look for the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs logo, and download the sheet titled “Take This Form and Sign It.” Instructions are provided on each form.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) July 21, 2009

Techaisle ‘s study on ownership and use of Netbooks among businesses shows that current and potential Netbook buyers are more technologically sophisticated than non-Netbook owners and support mobility products within their businesses. These small businesses not only support and use mobile applications such as direct push email they have a defined policy for the use and support of Smartphones. Surveys were conducted across several countries in both developed and emerging markets.

The study conducted by Techaisle, a market research and consulting organization focused on Emerging Markets, Emerging Technologies and Interactive Entertainment also found that 46 percent of small businesses that are “Likely to Buy” Netbooks currently use push email. These small businesses are tech savvy using databases, SaaS and collaboration technologies.

As per the study, ASUS brand with 52 percent penetration is strong among small business primarily due to early entry into the market and availability through online retailers and local VARs/Resellers. Dell and HP are stronger players with higher penetration within Mid-market and Large Businesses.

Metal-on-Metal Hip Implant Study Finds Metal Ions Trigger Painful Immune Reaction, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports

New York, New York (PRWEB) October 22, 2012

Researchers at the University of New Castle in the U.K. may have discovered the reason behind the pain and suffering experienced by some recipients of metal-on-metal hip implants, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to a report from The Northern Echo, researchers there have determined that the shedding of metal ions from metal-on-metal hip implants may be mistaken by the immune system for bacteria. As such, the immune system triggers a component called Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which results in a secretion of chemicals that can cause inflammatory lesions pseudo tumors – around the joint. Writing in the Annals of Rheumatology Research, the New Castle University scientists asserted that the findings provide the first explanation for the chronic inflammation and tissue damage that is seen in some patients with failed metal-on-metal hip implants.*

This is just the most recent study to confirm the significant risks associated with metal-on-metal hip replacements, says Bernstein Liebhard, a nationwide law firm representing clients who sustained injuries from a variety of metal-on-metal hip systems. The Firm is currently offering free and confidential lawsuit reviews to individuals who suffered serious complications, including metal poisoning, due to metal-on-metal hip implants.

Metal-on-Metal Hip Implant Dangers

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is currently reviewing the safety of metal-on-metal hip implants. According to the agency, metal particles shed by such devices can result in an adverse local tissue reaction that causes damage to bone and/or tissue surrounding the implant and joint. As a result, the implant can become loose or cause pain, leading to revision surgery. There are also some case reports in the literature of patients in which high levels of metal ions in the bloodstream may have caused other types of symptoms or illnesses elsewhere in the body, including effects on the heart, nervous system, and thyroid gland, according to the FDA.**

Individuals who experienced metal-on-metal hip problems may file lawsuits against the devices manufacturers to seek compensation for their injuries. The lawyers at Bernstein Liebhard LLP are actively filing cases involving the DePuy ASR hip implant and the metal-on-metal Pinnacle hip system. The firm is also investigating cases concerning the Biomet M2a Magnum hip implant, as well as Wright Profemur and Conserve metal hip implants. In addition, Bernstein Liebhard LLP is closely following developments of the June 2012 Smith & Nephew metal liner recall and the July 2012 Stryker recall of its Rejuvenate and ABG II modular-neck hip stems.

Bernstein Liebhard LLP is offering free lawsuit consultations to anyone injured as a result of a metal-on-metal hip replacement device. Individuals who have endured hip implant failures, metallosis, pain, or revision surgery due to one of these devices may be entitled to compensation for their medical care, pain and suffering, and other damages.
