Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs Campaign Finds International Interest and Support

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 2, 2006

Today the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs campaign, aimed at getting one million people to stop and reevaluate the medications they are taking, reported that interest in the initiative is coming from a wide array of countries around the globe. Though 79 percent of the inquires about the initiative are coming from the United States; the campaign is getting interest from people in the industrial nations of the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and France. Beyond the major developed countries, the long tail of interest in the initiative extends to 71 countries around the world including Japan, India, Romania, Jordan, Brazil, Turkey, Qatar, Spain Sweden, Mexico, Korea, China and South Africa.

The fact that 21 percent of the 15,000 inquiries weve received during the pre-launch have come from outside the U.S. underscores the global nature of the problem, said Dr Gregg Tefft, co-founder of the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs campaign. As we take the campaign online this week, we welcome supporters in all of these countries.

During the month of October, the initiative aims to get one million people and one million parents to take a second look at the prescription medications they are taking and giving their children. Participants will be encouraged to download a form that allows them to thoughtfully evaluate the drugs they are taking or giving to their children. The form collects specific information from their prescribing physician, pharmacist or healthcare provider and requests the providers signature attesting that they have fully informed the patient or parent of the risks and benefits of the prescribed medication, as well as non-drug alternatives.

Coalition members have declared October “Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs Month” and have scheduled a conference in Washington, D.C. on October 7th to officially launch the campaign. Information about the conference is available at http://www.icspp.org

The core coalition is already comprised of international supporters, said Dr. Dominick Riccio, psychologist and chairman of the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs campaign. The Internet has made it possible to more easily identify and reach global supporters, and to track with high levels of precision where the campaign is resonating most, said Riccio.

Organizations and individuals who want to participate in the campaign may go to any of the following Web sites, look for the Just Say Know to Prescription Drugs logo, and download the sheet titled “Take This Form and Sign It.” Instructions are provided on each form.

#Tweet4Toys Taps Twitter in Social Media for Social Good Campaign

Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) December 2, 2010

Every year The Salvation Army helps thousands of families during the holidays. Thanks to the generosity of so many Tulsans, most of the angels are adopted from the Angel Trees each year, but there are always some that do not get their holiday wishes fulfilled.

In 2009, The Tulsa Salvation Army had over 3,000 forgotten angels, said Lindsay Sparks, E-Marketing Director for the Salvation Army in Tulsa. When its time to give out gifts the forgotten angels are the ones still left on the trees. This year, Social Media Tulsas #Tweet4Toys will collect toys that will be used to insure every forgotten angel receives something special this Christmas.

The website, designed by Tulsas GuRuStu Group, was launched on Twitter via a press conference style chat. Tweet4toys.orgs features are as cutting edge as the campaign itself. People who include #Tweet4toys in their Tweets will see their profile photo appear on the site. A live counter will show how many times #tweet4toys has been tweeted, and if the tweet includes a photo, it will be included on the home page as well.

We believe even the smallest gesture of kindness toward a child will in turn benefit the world. This is why the GuRuStu Group felt compelled to donate its creative services to the Tweet4Toys campaign. We wanted to provide a website to serve as a central location for everyone to see all activity taking place with the toy drive. The Tweet4Toys website uses custom code to integrate the Twitter API and popular image hosting services within a WordPress powered site. — Stuart McDaniel, Founder and Managing Partner, The GuRuStu Group

Local businesses, families, and individuals can use the hashtag #Tweet4Toys to show their support in this toy drive. By sending out a tweet about participating, recruiting, or dropping off toys for #Tweet4Toys, Twitter users are helping spread the message about this fun opportunity.

Tulsa has a strong social media and blogging presence. It is unique, tight, and city focused. According to Twellow, an online Twitter directory, there are over 9,000 Tulsa related Twitter profiles. Social Media Tulsa and The Salvation Army believe it is time to take that passion and apply it to do great work for those in the community. Find out how to spread the word and where to drop off your toys.

If you are not in Tulsa and you still want to support #Tweet4toys, you can still participate via mobile giving. To make a $ 10 one-time gift, text the words Joy Toy to 85944. (Include the space)

The popular Twitter tips and tools account, @TweetSmarter posted this tweet to their 220,337 followers: Tweet4Toys helps the Salvation Army help kids: http://j.mp/fMUvtu “

“Tap11 partnered with Social Media Tulsa and The Salvation Army Tulsa to track all tweets containing the #Tweet4Toys hashtag. With Tap11′s Buzz Monitoring feature, we are able to see how many times the hashtag is mentioned, who the key influencers are, and which tweets containing the hashtag are most impactful. This will provide the Tweet4Toys program with invaluable insight around their campaign.” — Adam Zbar, CEO Tap11

“Using Twitter for Social good is a great way to contribute to the community.” — Ruben Orozco, Founder Tweetfind

During the December Social Media Tulsa meetup, attendees will fill the baskets for the forgotten angels, said Cheryl Lawson, founder and organizer of Social Media Tulsa. Dont get caught up in the stress of Christmas, stop for second and give back you will be glad you did. #Tweet4Toys is social media for social good.

One lucky attendee of the December meetup will win a Zi8 digital camera provided by Kodak, added Lawson. Join us as we make sure there are no forgotten angels in Tulsa this Christmas.

Corus360 Cares and The GA Compassion Project support a Local Elementary School with Help Ted Run! Campaign

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 27, 2012

With the success of their Warm Hands, Warm Hearts holiday project, Corus360 Cares and The Georgia Compassion Project have teamed up again to help the students at Stripling Elementary school in Norcross, GA.

Corus360 Cares and The GA Compassion Project have dedicated their Spring 2012 fundraiser, Help Ted Run!, to improving the playground at Stripling Elementary. For this fundraiser, Corus360s VP of Professional Services, Ted Pappas, has committed to run to and from Corus360s corporate office every morning and evening instead of driving his car to work. This is approximately 12 miles per day.

Help Ted Run! launched at the beginning of February and will continue into March. Help Ted Run! will culminate with Teds participation in a 100 mile one day run at the end of March.

All money raised from this campaign will be used to buy new playground and P.E. equipment for Stripling Elementary. This includes new jump ropes, basketballs, basketball hoops, swing set, structures for shade, and black top games.

Corus360 Cares and The GA Compassion Project are dedicated to keeping Stripling students active by ensuring they have the necessary resources for fun, healthy play, said Ted Pappas.

Mr. Ted my family donated money and I am excited to see what new equipment we will get even if its a jump rope. I want to say thank you for doing this, said 4th grade student, Stripling Elementary.

Corus360 Cares and The GA Compassion Project are asking for flat donations or a pledge per mile that Ted runs. Donors can follow Teds journey and keep track of his miles on his blog at http://www.helptedrun.wordpress.com.

To date, Safeway has raised and donated more than $ 130 million to support organizations such as Easter Seals, Special Olympics and a range of other organizations that assist people with special needs.

Mobility Designer Gabriel Wartofsky Launches "Folding Electric Bike for Commuters" Kickstarter Campaign

Portland, OR (PRWEB) August 30, 2011

Gabriel Wartofsky, award-winning mobility designer, has launched his Kickstarter funding campaign entitled Folding Electric Bike for Commuters to begin U.S. manufacturing of folding electric commuter bikes.

Wartofsky’s design, a lightweight, compact, intuitively folding electric bike, empowers commuters to get to the nearest bus stop or rail station, and, after commuting, to their office or school without breaking a sweat, or losing the environmentally conscious benefits of traditional bike commuting.

Wartofsky, born and raised in Washington, DC, grew up in a family with no automobile. His mother earned cult notoriety in the Chevy Chase, DC area and recognition in the Washington Post as the bike lady. His ecological mobility solutions have won multiple awards and publishings, including the Michelin Challenge Design Competition, Interior Motives and Dura Design Awards. Wartofsky also has work experience as a design consultant to companies that include BMW Design Works, Nissan, Bike Nation and Big Blue Bus of Santa Monica.

I want people to again experience the joys of the bicycle my mother enjoyed for most of her life, said Wartofsky. My challenge was to design a bike that will enable commuters to reacquaint themselves with the hidden magic that surrounds daily travel. An easy, fun way to get around.

Kickstarter, a funding program for designers of creative projects to reach out to potential supporters via the Internet, is the perfect platform for Wartofsky to highlight his commuting solution. The hands-on nature of Kickstarter allows those interested in helping shape the future of commuting to directly participate and collaborate in the final design and production decisions for the electric bike.

Everyone who backs the project receives something from getting their name on Gabriels newly launched companys web site for only a $ 1 pledge, participating in crowd-sourcing, receiving a t-shirt they helped design, going to Gabriels star-studded launch party in LA, or even purchasing the folding e-bike at less than the price of top folding bikes without electric assist.

The best part of Kickstarter is that it allows everyone who wants to, to be involved said Wartofsky. I’ve been working on prototypes for this bike for a long time, and I need help in taking my final prototype into full production.

The funds raised during Wartofskys Kickstarter campaign will be applied to launch the U.S. production of his folding e-bike. Product launch and his first production run are slated for Q1 2012.

About Gabriel Wartofsky

Gabriel Wartofsky is an award-winning designer who aims to improve the way we move around our neighborhoods, cities and planet with desirable, responsible design solutions. For more information, visit his designers blog at http://karinsbike.wordpress.com/, or http://consciouscommuter.com.

Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA, is supporting Wartofsky in the launch of the folding e-bike project that he developed while working on his Bachelor of Science in Transportation Design degree at Art Center. In addition to helping spread the work of his project to students, alumni, and friends of the College via blogging, their web site and emails, Art Center will feature his folding e-bike in their booth at the annual L.A. Auto Show, at Forward Motion: Advancing Mobility in California & Quebec on September 21, 2011, in Pasadena, CA, and at the annual Car Classic at the Colleges Hillside campus. Additionally, Art Center has offered Wartofsky to host his official product launch party on the roof of their award-winning LEED certified South Campus building.

MarkdownMail Application for IOS Devices Integrates with MailChimp for Campaign Creation On the Go With iPhones and IPads

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 26, 2011

MarkdownMail, a popular iPhone/iPad app, announced today that the newest release includes the option to send content directly into MailChimp, providing a true on-the-go platform for MailChimp subscribers to create and edit content. Created by Second Gear, a Mac and iOS development firm based out of Carmel IN, the updated MarkdownMail app is a new integration supported by MailChimps $ 1 million fund supporting the development of integrations with its platform.

The idea behind launching the MailChimp Integration Fund this past November was simple: We basically want to help small startups with small, paying projects. Projects that involve integrating their apps with the MailChimp API, explains says Ben Chesnut, Co-founder and CEO of MailChimp. Third party integrations are an important part of who we are and we hope effective integrations like MarkdownMail will encourage other businesses to follow suit.

Providing a new way to bring content in from an iOS device, MarkdownMail is integrated with MailChimp so users can compose HTML content on their iPhones, iPod touches and iPads and send it directly to their MailChimp accounts as a new campaign. Available for $ 3.99 through the iTunes App Store, MailChimp is offering a credit for MailChimp users who download and use the app and use it within thirty days.

MarkdownMail uses MailChimp’s Objective-C wrapper, ChimpKit, to interact email campaign data. This open source library allows iOS developers to connect their apps seamlessly to MailChimp’s API. Thousands of developers already use MailChimp to stay in touch with customers. Now, ChimpKit helps them build their list right inside of the app.

The MailChimp Integration Fund is now accepting applications from anyone interested in building an integration on the MailChimp platform. Possible categories for development range from sign-up modules to more complex data sharing. Development can also focus on increasing the utility of an existing integration or plugin. Interested parties should complete a short form online at http://www.mailchimp.com/about/integration-fund to begin the application process. Funds will be applied on a per-project basis and the amount of funds allocated to any one project will be determined based on the requirements of each specific project.

Goody Awards Launches Green Plastic-Free Holiday Campaign with 5 Gyres

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) November 30, 2012

To prevent water pollution, the Goody Awards is launching a Have a Green Plastic-Free Holiday campaign (Thanksgiving-New Years) with 5 Gyres Institute. Along with giving social good awards, the Goody Awards builds awareness campaigns around issues and causes. For this marketing campaign, tips will be shared for how everyone can make a difference this holiday via multi-media (press release, social media, media, video, and contest), including this video: Ocean Heroes – The Plastic Problem – 5 Gyres (One World One Ocean).

This green holiday campaign is designed to extend the environmental awareness being raised by the Golden Goody Award (aka Oscar for social good) presentation to 5 Gyres Founder Anna Cummins at the UN Women’s Greater Los Angeles Chapter event on December 8, 2012 (SGI Culture of Peace Center, 606 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, CA). And because women decide on 85% of the consumer purchases in the US, this group is in a very powerful role to make change happen and preserve our precious resources.

Consumers are encouraged to think differently about plastic, and the Goody Awards is sponsoring a contest to help share and recognize those who take action taken. Everyone can help spread the word by tweeting what was done to help (tweet example: “Prevented plastic pollution by taking my own glass to our holiday party”) with #EcoGoody to encourage others to take similar steps. The individual with the most tweets will receive a $ 100 cash gift that the Goody Awards will donate to the winner’s charity of choice.

According to National Geographic, For every six water bottles we use, only one makes it to the recycling bin. The rest are sent to landfills. Or, even worse, they end up as trash on the land and in rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Plastic bottles take many hundreds of years to disintegrate. Based on input from 5 Gyres, calls to action will be shared via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Pinterest for how to reduce the use of disposable plastics.

Below are the 15 Tips for a Green Plastic-Free Holiday developed by the Goody Awards and 5 Gyres Institute:

Parties

1. “Encourage your company to have a Green Plastic-Free Holiday Party”

2. “BYO – Bring your own utensils, cups, containers, and straws to holiday parties and gatherings”
