Contract Connections Draws Sold-Out Crowd Seeking Federal Procurement Opportunities

Baltimore, MD (Vocus) December 15, 2010

More than 250 Maryland small and minority businesses flocked yesterday to Contract Connections, the states first federal industry day, seeking government procurement opportunities. The sold-out event, which was organized by the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) and held at the Food and Drug Administration in Silver Spring, featured 13 federal agencies and military commands including NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, National Institutes of Health, Defense Information Systems Agency, National Security Agency, Social Security Administration, and Naval Air Systems Command, and many top private sector leaders, including Walter P. Havenstein, CEO of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), who served as the luncheon keynote speaker. Click here to view a live stream of the event.

DBED Deputy Secretary Dominick Murray kicked off the day by introducing breakout sessions led by senior federal officials and private sector industry leaders on R & D, cybersecurity and IT and professionals services. An afternoon panel featured a discussion on subcontracting opportunities that included top government contractors. The day concluded with unique matchmaking sessions in which businesses presented their statements of capabilities to the agencies as a first step in accessing federal procurement opportunities.

As we learned from yesterdays successful event, there are a vast number of federal procurement opportunities that can directly benefit our small and minority businesses, and we were pleased to bring together the federal agencies and the industry experts to help make those connections happen, said Deputy Secretary Murray.

We were pleased to host this event and hope it benefits both federal agencies and Maryland businesses, said Kimberly Holden, the FDAs Assistant Commissioner for Management.

Small businesses are an important part of our overall strategy at SAIC, said SAIC CEO Mr. Havenstein said during his keynote remarks. In FY 2010, we awarded $ 2.2 billion, or 20 percent of our total revenues, to small businesses, so they are really at the heart of what we do.

While federal agencies are expected to spend 10 percent less in procurements this fiscal year than last, experts noted yesterday that businesses in Maryland are uniquely positioned because of the States significant role in Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) as well as its leadership in industries like cybersecurity and health care.

With the wide range of industry experts that are here, in terms of professional services, IT, research and development, this event has been a tremendous help, said Lucus Toche with MilVets Systems Technology Inc., a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business in Lanham, who attended Contract Connections. Its a great opportunity to network, to get our name out there and to partner with other companies.

Maryland is home to more than 50 federal facilities which contribute an estimated $ 16 billion to the states economy and employ more than 70,000 people. For the year ending September 30, 2010, federal agencies contracted $ 34 billion with Maryland companies. In addition, Marylands military installations have an economic impact of $ 36 billion, employ more than 100,000 people (excluding contractors) and purchase nearly $ 7 billion in goods and services from Maryland companies.

In January, Governor OMalley appointed a Federal Facilities Advisory Board to identify ways in which Maryland can support and enhance the agencies infrastructure, education and workforce needs and facilitate the commercialization of the innovative technology created in federal and military labs. Yesterday, Board Chairman and Vice President of Van Scoyoc Associates Kevin Kelly announced the creation of the Team Maryland Networking and Mentoring Program to foster cooperation between Maryland-based companies, teach small companies best practices and provide teaming opportunities that can increase federal procurement expenditures in Maryland.

To further assist businesses seeking work with government agencies, DBED recently launched a B2G website which includes a how to guide and other resources for businesses interested in applying for federal contracts.

ThinkWeb3 and SocialAdMX Sponsors New Advisory Service about Internet Opportunities

Louisville, KY (PRWEB) May 31, 2011

Investors in ThinkWeb3, http://www.thinkweb3.com, and SocialAdMX, http://www.socialadmx.com, are sponsoring a new, sharply focused investment commentary service. HighGainBlog.com focuses providing commentary and information that can minimize the risk in an uncertain business climate. The news service does not make recommendations.

The reader will be interested in new opportunities, particularly those with moderated risk and high value, said Stephen E. Arnold, publisher and owner of ArnoldIT.com, an independent consulting and engineering firm. Too much of the investment information is fuzzy. We want to be clear and direct in stories that are crisp and brief.

The online publication is available without charge and publishes Monday through Friday. HighGainBlog.com is produced by ArnoldIT.com, publishers of Beyond Search (a news service focused on next generation search and content processing) and Inteltrax (a news service tracking the big data and analytics markets).

ArnoldIT.com has tapped Michael Onghai, CFA (http://www.linkedin.com/in/valueinvestor) as an editorial advisor. Onghai has compiled an impressive track record, including founding and Building Stock Sheet (acquired by regent group) and 123Jump. In addition, he was the second software developer hired at Geocities and has worked at a number of investment funds. Onghais informal observations add deep insight into such recent news stories covered in the Web log as:

Flash and Glitter Can Obscure Facts Associated with Selling Social Media, http://goo.gl/ytVFp
Aggressive Innovation in an Increasingly Mobile World, http://goo.gl/UhBkJ
Assessing Business Credibility, http://goo.gl/lEn2u

The current stories and the archive of stories are available without charge at http://www.highgainblog.com. An RSS feed is available. Notifications of new stories are available via Twitter.

Topics covered in the HighGainBlog information service include:

Business strategies of startups
International opportunities with a focus on the Pacific Rim
Mobile startups
Social media

Onghai, one of the worlds most prescient financial analysts, said: The HighGainBlog news service fills a gap, particularly with regard to social and mobile media. Most of the services mention a startup, comment on the features of the software, and then provide a URL. HighGainBlog attracted my attention and that of the exciting ThinkWeb3 and SocialAdMX because the content is sharp, short, to the point, and includes a critical observation. I dont have time to read thirty pages of marketing collateral or consume every story in the financial press. HighGainBlog provides the short content hit I need and want.

The Web information service will include articles, features, and links to important business information resources. In addition, the HighGainBlog.com editorial team, http://arnoldit.com/wordpress/writers/, will offer critical comments about companies and strategies. The stories will not offer investment advice. The information service will focus on ameliorating risk through sound analysis and critical thinking. As good as the flood of business information is, the editors of HighGainBlog.com want to flag concerns and business methods that help individuals and organizations navigate todays rough financial rapids. Comments are permitted for every HighGainBlog.com story. An About section sets forth the editorial policy for the Web log. Story ideas may be submitted to tessarnold(at)rocketmail(dot)com.

Published Monday through Friday, HighGainBlog.com fills a need for clear, concise, clear commentary on the present uncertain business climate. BlogMine Delivers Revenue Opportunities for Bloggers

Chelmsford, MA (PRWEB) January 10, 2005

BlogMine, a leading developer of blog content mining services, will today begin offering its GoldRush (sm) service to bloggers and content syndicators. This service enables publishers to monetize blog and syndication content regardless of the syndication format.

The service provides a universal way to monetize all blog related content, regardless of whether it is published to the Web or as an RSS / Atom feed. Bloggers are in full control and are now able to maximize the earning potential of their blogs.

BlogMine’s service integrates seamlessly into popular blogging publisher tools such as Movable Type and WordPress. As a post is entered or edited, the content is analyzed and the most appropriate and most revenue generating text ad is inserted into the page or RSS / Atom feed. Publishers get paid as visitors click on the ads.

A-list fashion blogger Manolo will be launching the service across his series of high-fashion related blogs, Manolo’s Shoe Blog, Manolo For The Men, and Manolo’s Prada Blog, among others. “BlogMine gives the Manolo exactly what he needs– the super-fantastic and unparalleled control over the blog revenue”, says Manolo.

Ad services are provided by Chitika, Inc. “Chitika has created a contextual ad framework for monetizing blogs and RSS / Atom feeds. It simplifies blog content monetization since the service can monetize all blog content regardless of how it is being published. Adding contextual text ads to blog and RSS / Atom feeds has become a checkbox away for publishers.

BlogMine supports many standard ad sizes as well as some proprietary non-standard ad products optimized for feeds. BlogMine would be well suited for bloggers who would like customized or non-standard ad products for their pages or feeds.

Further enhancements to the service, including micro-payment processing and affiliate services, are underway to provide more monetization power to bloggers.

Opportunities for Budding Authors Just Got Bigger

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 29, 2010

Fraxion Payments (http://www.fraxionpayments.com), the company behind the plugin that lets bloggers charge micropayments for their content, revealed today a new use for their system: the first publishing of an entire novel.

Chris Wilkins, co-founder of Fraxion Payments, says: This demonstrates how our system can work for any content and that there are now vast new opportunities for budding authors to get their work published.

He adds that this is important for new authors, because as book shops continue to limit the number of titles they want on their shelves and in their warehouses the harder its becoming for new authors to become published.

Gone are the days of the publishing industry having a go with a new author, he says. For a new author to be published huge sales must be guaranteed or the book industry isnt interested. This lends itself to block-buster authors and celebrities, and not new authors who might sell a few thousand books. He points out that the first print run of Harry Potter was 1,000.

This is one of the driving reasons he co-developed Fraxion Payments. Ive wanted to get my first book published for some years. After running the gauntlet of numerous rejections from publishers my book is now published and anyone can read it (over the internet).

Im not saying its a best-seller, but at least people now get to see it and can make a choice. If readers like it they will read it to the end. If they think it sucks, they wont.

Now all the thousands of authors out there the publishing industry has rejected can get their books published in an easy way for readers to buy them directly.

The opportunities for budding authors are now huge. Any author out there who wants to get their book published and at least start their career can do exactly what I did. And they dont even have to sign a contract.

About Handar and Battleaxe Books

Handar, written by Chris Wilkins, is a gripping novel about a running battle between orcs and humans. Its available at http://www.battleaxebooks.com/handar. The entire book of 108,000 words can be read for only $ 2.50. The system uses Fraxion Payments locking mechanism for each part of the book and the first 2,000 words are free.

About Fraxion Payments

Fraxion Payments (http://www.fraxionpayments.com) is a micropayment plug-in for any content running on the free blog software WordPress. The Fraxion Payment system is already being used for online magazines, blogs and local journalism sites.
