Google Takes User Experience Into Consideration - Website Design Plays Critical Role

Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) July 07, 2011

Google’s move to amend existing search engine optimization practices has affected online businesses in more ways than one. The algorithm, intended to determine whether content on websites are optimized for consumers rather than search engines, also takes into account the design of that which houses the content. Google like a site layout that is user friendly: in other words ‘pleasing to the eyes and easy to navigate’. Australian internet marketer James Schramko, CEO of SuperFastWebsites – a division of SFB, has been developing custom websites for clients for years, and shares his opinion on the Panda update:

“There are tons of websites out there with great content that are being pulled down the rankings due to poor design and overall structure. Panda update or not, design has always played a critical role in online marketing. It makes perfect sense. Given two sites of equal quality content, consumers will automatically favor the better looking site – it’s human nature.”

Designing websites, aside from the messy technical aspects like CSS and HTML coding, requires a great deal of creativity. Studies show that people are more responsive to certain colors and shapes because of specific emotions they provoke. Balancing data like these are among the many factors taken into consideration when coming up with a good design.

Another aspect taken into account is site layout. A study shows some of the common mistakes web developers make, one of such is unclear navigation options. “People are there already looking for something”, said Schramko, “if you give them a hard time finding their way around your site, they’ll leave for good” he added.

The algorithm tracks how long visitors stay on websites, as well as how many pages they visit before leaving. A good design, coupled with great content encourages people to read on and visit other pages on the site as well. A low score in that area may cause the website to tumble down the rankings as this would signify low consumer satisfaction.

“Design talent can take years to perfect. There is science behind everything seen on high quality websites. The reason they convert isn’t attributed to quality content alone – even before the update. You are wasting valuable resources by building websites based on bad designs. If you are having trouble setting up your site the way you envision it to be, drop by our Custom WordPress Website Development at http://www.SuperFastWebsites.com. I’m sure we’ll find something that will suit your needs.”

Want to Knock a Competing Business Off of Google? A New Study Shows that $45 May be All it Takes

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) June 24, 2012

TastyPlacement, an Austin-based search engine optimization firm, recently released a study that highlights the potential for businesses to negatively impact the search engine positions of competitors through the purchase of inexpensive spam links.

Negative SEO (search engine optimization) has emerged recently as a malicious technique employed by businesses that seeks to harm the Google search rankings of a competitor’s website. The principal method employed by practitioners of negative SEO is to purchase hypertext links from poor quality websites and direct those links to point to a competitor’s website. While digital marketing practitioners disagree on the effectiveness of negative SEO, the theory underlying the practice is that Google’s ranking algorithm interprets the low-quality links as an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings and responds by punishing the target website by lowering its ranking position.

Specifically, the study began with a sample website that enjoyed consistent favorable search rankings for a popular search term. Operators then purchased over 50,000 “spam” website links through online forums and from practitioners of negative SEO techniques over the course of several weeks in May of 2012. The total cost of the purchased links was $ 45. The operators then monitored the search engine ranking position of the target website over the course of the study.

The results revealed a drop in ranking position for the test website’s principal search phrase from position 3 to position 14 in Google search results within the 30 days covered by the study.

Michael David, who conducted the study, noted, “We only tested one website, but the short period of time and the correlation between the dates we got the links and the dates the website moved lower in search results seems pretty clear to us that negative SEO is very real, and is likely to become very popular as a result.”

An infographic covering the study, as well as a detailed methodology, are available here: http://www.tastyplacement.com/infographic-testing-negative-seo

Events Manager Takes WordPress Events to a New Level

(PRWEB UK) 31 August 2012

Events Manager was born in 2008 out of love for coding and contributing to the ever-growing open source community. With dedication and resolve to create a complete suite of solutions for those wanting to host and promote events on their sites, EM quickly became the most popular Events plugin on WordPress.

Due to such a large and growing demand for features, support and integrations, a Premium add-on was introduced, which extends on the capabilities of the free plugin with sought-after features such as priority support forums, payment gateways and custom form editors. This in turn helps fund the free version and support, and therefore has established EM as one of the most active communities on the WordPress support forums.

Marcus Sykes, the lead developer of EM, emphasizes some of the core principles of this plugin and what it sets out to achieve; “not only were we able to create free software that thousands of users can benefit from at no cost, we have consequently also had the opportunity to take this plugin to a new level, providing support to both free and premium users, extended documentation and many more feature additions.”

Events Manager has a comprehensive set of features to enable both experienced and novice users to host events and manage registrations out the box with minimal setup. Moreover, it also has the capability and flexibility to provide experienced users and developers the means to highly customize and tailor the plugin to their own needs.

Events Manager could be thought of as an Events framework for WordPress, and the premium add-on, Events Manager Pro provides a perfect demonstration for how the free plugin can be extended to the limit of a developer’s imagination, and the community

Web Design Company Takes Advantage of Fundamental Online Business Tools for a Cost-Effective Web Development

Perth, Western Australia (PRWEB) April 27, 2012

Spanky Media, which is widely recognised as the premier WordPress Development Company in Perth, has been persistent in their commitment to provide professional-looking web designs and highly competitive web development services to their clients through valuable online tools that further enhance their service offerings for custom website development, social media integration, and mobile website development.

As design trends evolve, modern corporate websites have seen massive growth from the previous years. Most business owners, either large or small, now use a powerful web presence to sustain business leads and spread the word about their products.

David Jones Limited (DJS) has recently announced that it has signed a contract with IBM to build up and feature a workable web design, as part of their extensive online marketing campaign that would effectively help them provide an all-encompassing customer experience, not just from their walk-in retail stores, but also from their online sites and in mobile devices.

Paul Zahra, the CEO of David Jones, has this to say of the companys recent business endeavour. Our appointment of IBM to deliver an end-to-end MCR platform, in addition to our increased investment in technology including a new POS system is indicative of our new strategic focus and commitment to transforming our business into a fully integrated multi-channel retailer.

The companys Retail Services Group Executive, Antony Karp, further justifies this by signifying that IBM has a proven international track record of delivering successful end-to-end MCR platforms for department stores. Having seen the success of the systems IBM has implemented for international department stores, we are confident that we have partnered with the best possible entity to enable us to commence our transformation into a fully integrated multi-channel retailer on par with the worlds best.

In another aspect, recent trends have shown an increased popularity of WordPress as a free Content Management System platform used in web designs and blogging. This is due to its relative simplicity compared to its nearest counterparts, namely Drupal and Joomla.

Kirk OConnor, Spanky Medias Director of Development, says that “Taking advantage of the versatility of WordPress as a Content Management System helps provide products that are dependable and deliver top performance out of the box.”

Unarguably, entrepreneurs must take advantage of the immense popularity that the Internet itself has attained. Having vibrant, attractive web designs can indeed effectively cater to consumer-based short attention spans and unrelenting urge for ease and simplicity.

Spanky Medias websites are at the forefront of custom WordPress development and are conceptualised to ensure maximum flexibility. With its modular design, their website development services deliver fast remarkable results within a short lead time.
