Bitnami – Cloud Deployable Software Stacks
Reductive Labs – Open Source Data Center Automation
Zenoss – Unlegacy IT Management Emphasizing Virtualization and Cloud Management

Supporting Quotes:

Dave Nielsen, co-Founder CloudCamp

“With rapid change occurring in IT operations, we realized that a place is needed where operations personnel and sysadmins can meet to share their experiences, challenges and solutions. OpsCamp is organized as an unconference which encourages the open exchange of ideas around next generation technologies and strategies for IT Operations. End users, IT professionals and vendors are all encouraged to participate.”

John M. Willis, Author of Cloud Computing and Systems Management Blog, co-host IT Management Podcast and the Cloud Cafe

“While the cloud has lowered the barrier to entry for businesses to own a data center; it has not decreased the complexity of managing complex applications and data center operations. OpsCamp is about exploring the opportunity to intersect ideas like agile development, continuous deployment, and data center operations to promote the rise of a new movement that breaks down the traditional walls between development and operations (i.e., DevOps).”

Mark Hinkle, VP of Community, Zenoss

“Operations personnel and sysadmins are becoming programmers because of the virtualization/cloud and automation trend where everything is managed through an API. The line between application developers and IT operations is becoming blurred. Many of the principles that apply to Agile application development translate to operations. So if you are a developer with a interest for system administration, or a systems administrator interested in development, OpsCamp is the place to be.”

Web Start-up Generates $500,000 in First Year Revenues

Freedom, PA (PRWEB) December 1, 2010

In the current jaded business environment, finding a start-up that has spent its entire existence in the black is a rare find. This little web service company has a big mission: to support web entrepreneurs and existing companies with web-content needs in building and refining their web presence.

With gross revenues of just over $ 500,000 and spending 364 of their 365 days of existence in a positive cash-flow position, IMarketing2030 LLC has a lot to celebrate. While preparing for the first anniversary of their web-content site, The Content Authority, CEO Shawn Manaher took a few moments to review some of the companys achievements in the first year and what to expect in the next during a recent interview.

1. What is The Content Authority all about?

The Content Authority (TCA) is one side of the IMarketing 2030, LLC business coin. The company offers services which include site building, development and rank tracking via Niche Tracker (NT), while TCA continues to provide article creation, where someone can buy articles and submission. They offer products and services that build on the existing online marketing campaigns of individuals and businesses.

TCA started as pure content generation, but it was quickly clear clients needed more. All of the decisions generating changes for TCA have occurred by answering a single question: How can we better serve our writers and clients? This is where NT has supported our client base and their goals.

The beauty of their format is that they have services that can fit every budget. From $ 10 to $ 10,000, they can help clients develop and distribute content in ways that will drive their business forward.

2. What have been TCA’s greatest achievements in its inaugural year?

They are most proud of creating a system that is user friendly for writers and clients alike. And they have done an excellent job this past year creating a web interface that supports 4,000 writers and a similar number of clients.

This has demanded a strong team. In the last year, they have gone from a staff of one to a staff of twelve. The freelance writers have created over 115,000 total articles, with a rejection rate of only 0.008%. In a very subjective industry, they have a failure rate at the five sigma level, approaching a six-sigma gold-standard. This is truly outstanding for a web-content provider.

3. Who have been the key players in TCA’s success?

The staff at TCA and NT have made it possible to support the writer and client community that drives their business. Each of the staff understands that the writers are the internal customers, the clients are the external customer and both are critical to the mission.

That said, some individuals stand out: Shawn Dolen, the head of the development team; Faith Kaltenbach is the glue that holds the Editing and Customer Care areas together; and Lei White who started as Senior Editor and transitioned into the Niche Tracker Manager as that became a key growth sector.

4. Why do clients use TCA? How is this company different from the other web-content services?

Clients use TCA to receive original and rewritten content for their site, blog and back linking sites.

They return for two reasons: 1) because they know that TCA will provide an excellent product at a very reasonable price and 2) They know they will receive the BEST customer service online for any content creation company in existence. They prove it each week. The customer service staff continues to expand in support of the growing client list.

Most content creation companies stop at the point of creating the content. Their methods is to build a back link powerhouse to places like EzineArticles, GoArticles, and a host of other rank building tools make them different. They are also approaching a new service release which will enable clients to order content directly delivered into their existing WordPress sites. More news coming soon!

In addition, they are different in that they are leveraging technology and will continue to support software development ensuring a wonderful experience for both writers and clients.

5. What is some good advice for new clients of TCA?

Check them out first before placing a large order. They know they provide an excellent product, but it is always good practice to start out small. This helps a user get used to how the system works, what to expect in terms of the quality and the turn around speed of orders.

6. What direction will TCA be taking in the future?

The focus this year internally will be further development of our Niche Tracker site, providing a simple and comprehensive means for clients to monitor all of their websites search engine ranking performance relative to their competition.

They will also be pushing forward on a new marketing strategy to get the word out about TCA & NT. This will mean they look to be making the rounds by participating in some of the top Internet Marketing conventions in the US & Canada. IMarketing 2030, LLC will also be actively identifying a network of strategic partners in this coming year.

7. Is there any last advice to give clients, writers, and other interested parties?

A lot of people have placed their trust in them this past year. They really took a chance with a new content creation site. The best advice for anyone who knows about them, whether they are are a writer, client or any other interested party: dont blink. This will be another year of agile decisions and exponential growth. Continue to trust them and they will continue to deliver the experience that any client may need. They intend to blow everyone away this year with all the new and exciting features and things we have in store.

Las Vegas, NV and Lenexa, KS (Vocus/PRWEB) February 05, 2011

Attensa Opens Free Public Beta of First Attention Driven RSS Reader for Microsoft

Portland, OR (PRWEB) March 6, 2007

Attensa, Inc., the leading developer of RSS software for businesses, announced a free public beta for Attensa for Outlook 2007 today. The new beta version builds on the integrated RSS capabilities in the new version of Microsoft Outlook 2007 by optimizing Outlook performance and adding a complete set of tools for receiving and managing critical business information while helping to cut through information overload with AttentionStream processing. Attensa AttentionStream processing continuously analyzes behaviors as RSS subscriptions are scanned and articles read. It automatically pulls the articles and feeds the reader finds to be most important to the top.

Consumer social media sites have been the driving force behind the early adoption and use of RSS. Microsoft’s integration of RSS in Vista, IE7 and Outlook 2007 will drive the further adoption of RSS by opening the eyes of business users to the advantages of using web feed workflows to get the right information to the right people at the right time.

Attensa for Outlook is the first RSS reader designed specifically for enterprise use. The Attensa for Outlook 2007 feature set and functionality were developed using in-depth feedback from IT professionals and corporate information workers in organizations where tens of thousands of desktops are using Attensa for Outlook.

The Attensa for Outlook 2007 beta is free and can be downloaded at http://www.attensa.com/beta

Attensa for Outlook 2007 Highlights:

Optimized Outlook performance: Separate PST files for RSS feeds

By default Outlook 2007 stores RSS subscriptions in the users Exchange mailbox. In enterprise environments with limits on mailbox size, these files can fill up – FAST. Combining RSS articles with email can dramatically slow Outlook performance. To optimize Outlook performance, Attensa for Outlook 2007 stores feeds in a separate file. This speeds up Outlook performance, cuts storage requirements and makes feeds and articles available for offline reading.

Update feeds and delete articles on defined schedule

Outlook 2007 updates feeds at the same time it is sending and receiving email. This dual updating can significantly slow Outlook performance. Attensa for Outlook 2007 provides custom scheduling for updating RSS feeds. Users can set up schedules for specific feeds. Feeds are updated independently from email. And, with Attensa for Outlook 2007, users can update all of their feeds on demand by simply using the update now button. Users can also define schedules for automatically deleting read and unread articles. With Outlook 2007, users must clean out folders manually.

Safe and Secure Subscriptions to Internal and External RSS feeds

As more businesses are looking at RSS as a communication vehicle that can handle sensitive financial, development and supply chain information, the need for a safe secure transmission of information is paramount. Attensa for Outlook 2007 handles secure feeds with authentication credentials to insure critical information is only being read by the people authorized to receive it. Outlook 2007 has no capability to receive secure feeds. With Attensa for Outlook users have the ability to set strip out potentially malicious attachments and to set up lists of blocked feeds and enclosures.

Advanced compatibility and synchronization with the Microsoft RSS Platform

Attensa for Outlook 2007 synchronizes with the new Microsoft RSS Platform. By leveraging the Microsoft Common Feed Store, RSS feeds added using Attensa for Outlook, Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Vista, will automatically be synchronized for a seamless user experience. Attensa RSS readers are integrated across communication devices and systems for a seamless user experience. With Attensa RSS readers you can access your RSS feeds anywhere in Outlook, on the Web and on mobile devices. The Attensa AttentionStream synchronization monitors every action from updating feeds, reading and deleting articles, subscribing to new feeds and adding tags are instantly synchronized in Outlook, Online and on your mobile phone or PDA.

Predictive Ranking AttentionStream

Attensa AttentionStream technology uses predictive ranking to continuously observe and analyze how users read and process RSS articles and subscriptions. Through this ongoing analysis of AttentionStream data, including the time and frequency that feeds are accessed and articles read, deleted and ignored, Attensa for Outlook 2007 displays feeds in a prioritized list based on the likelihood that they will be of interest to the reader. Priorities are constantly refined as the continuous stream of attention is processed. Attensa for Outlook 2007 lets users choose how they want subscriptions and articles presented. Subscriptions can be displayed in a “River of News” view that simulates a single news feed, regardless of how many RSS feeds the user has subscribed to.

One click blog republishing and easy editing with connection to Windows Live Writer

The publishing toolbar in Attensa for Outlook publishing can now be linked to Microsoft LiveWriter, a desktop WYSIWYG authoring application that makes is easy to write, edit and add photos and other rich content to blog posts. Articles can be easily edited republished to internal or external blogs including Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, Windows Live Spaces, and WordPress. Google"s Fast-Lane: Just the First Step in Google"s Effort to Become the Internet

Elizabethtown, KY (PRWEB) December 19, 2008

Google’s effort to get a fast lane for its services is old news, according to Stephen E. Arnold, author of several Google technology analyses.

A recent spotlight on Google and its plans for entering into deals with large telecommunications companies has created a need for information and analysis about the large Internet company. While some companies are dismissing the possible future, Arnold warns content providers not to be too complacent.

“You’re grasping at straws when you suggest that Google requires the support and permission of any entity or individual. The GOOG is emerging as the first digital nation state: Tough to understand, tough to regulate, and tough to thwart,” Arnold said.

Arnold’s monographs date from 2005 to September 2008 with a new report due out in March 2009.

The Google Legacy

“The Google Legacy: How Google’s Internet Search Is Transforming Application Software” breaks down the transformational computing platform that is Google. Written for business readers, especially senior executives of mid to large-sized, knowledge-based corporations, “The Google Legacy” places Google under a microscope, dissects Google’s technology, evaluates its potential and determines that Google’s future lies beyond search.

Three appendices provide lists of Google patents, publishers who have indicated some type of relationship with Google, and universities working with Google-information that, according to the author, Google has sought to keep under wraps.

This publication is available in PDF for US $ 180 or 115 euros. Order “The Google Legacy: How Google’s Internet Search Is Transforming Application Software” at http://www.infonortics.com/publications/google/google-legacy.html.

Google Version 2.0

Arnold’s second study, “Google Version 2.0: The Calculating Predator,” published by Infonortics in 2007, takes an even closer look at the content provider’s growing power and ubiquity. It was the first detailed study of the major patents held by Google and extrapolated the company’s possible business strategies — many of which have held true.

“Innovation at Google is the fuel needed to power the Googleplex and to satisfy Google’s hunger for ever more powerful, capable systems and software,” Arnold said. “Google, unlike Amazon or Yahoo, is built on mathematics, not engineering.”

And while the company is not specifically secretive; it is, according to Arnold, not forthcoming about its aims, plans, strategies and ambitions. The key patents analyzed in this study are often difficult to discover, since Google rarely files under the Google name; an exhaustive hunt of some of the key Google technical staff is required in order to unearth many of the patents held by Google.

This publication is available in PDF for US $ 640 or 410 euros. Order “Google Version 2.0: The Calculating Predator” at http://www.infonortics.com/publications/google/google-predator.html.

Beyond Search

The third monograph, “Beyond Search: What to Do When Your Enterprise Search System Doesn’t Work,” was published by Gilbane Group this year. It is focused on procedures designed to get incumbent search systems back on track and includes tips and tricks to fix an ailing system. It also identifies alternatives to the now-ageing “enterprise” systems so common in organizations today and profiles 24 vendors.

A workgroup license (up to 10) is US $ 895 and an enterprise site license is US $ 1,595. Order “Beyond Search: What to Do When Your Enterprise Search System Doesn’t Work” at http://gilbane.com/beyond-search.html.

Specific services

Arnold and his Beyond Search team at http://arnoldit.com/wordpress/ also offer professional, tailored briefings on Google’s technology investments over the last decade, including the telco analysis and a new one on Google’s machine learning methods. These are a blend of technology analysis and examples in Google’s open source publications.

Arnold’s Overflight service at http://www.arnoldit.com/overflight/ is an RSS aggregation service. The service that is now publicly available aggregates the headlines from Google’s 74 Web logs. The team groups the most recent headlines using the same categories that Google favors. The for-fee service offers more bells and whistles, but a free trial is available at http://www.arnoldit.com/overflight. Companies can see at a glance what Google is publishing on its own Web logs; Arnold can organize and quantify the information tailored to a company’s specifications.

“I rely on my analytical methods to identify key trends and use only open source materials. Nevertheless, the capabilities of Google are quite interesting,” Arnold said. “Just look at what the GOOG has done in online advertising. The disruptive potential of its other technologies is comparable.”

Two other monographs discussed Google’s technology investments designed to give the company pride of place in Internet services. 3500 Soldiers Enlisted in the First Creative War

(PRWEB) August 31, 2009

On August 10th 3500 designers stepped on to Guerra Creativa’s online battlefield. Each designer is unique and comes with his or her own artistic weaponry. They come from all over the world with various levels of expertise. Their styles, interests, values and skills create a diverse community that will change the borders of the design world permanently.

Connaxis, a company based in Buenos Aires Argentina, posted the first battle brief to create the logo for Guerra Creativa at the beginning of August. By the end of the month, 110 creatives participated in the first battle, uploading 377 designs which gave the company a wide range of logos to choose from. The new platform can be used by companies to crowdsource creative work to a community of quality designers. It sets itself apart from other crowdsourcing initiatives due to its playful battlefield concept, community arena, profiling functionality, modern design and multilingual application.

Peter van Grinsven, Managing Director of Connaxis, says the following about the company’s latest initiative: “Thousands of companies are started every day. In the past these companies, whilst considering a logo or web design, ran the risk of limited choice, bad design, high price or provider lock-in which made the whole process problematic. Now, with Guerra Creativa, everyone has access to affordable design and choice. You name your price, watch designers compete for your work and finally you choose the best design. Guerra Creativa is a showcase for the skills of the three Connaxis business units: Internet Marketing, Web Development and Support. Connaxis markets, designs, programs and supports the Guerra Creativa online application. We can successfully position, launch and support any online business”. Cristian Fernandez, Creative Director of Connaxis points out that “Guerra Creativa is the ideal internet community for the creative. It provides access to international clients and can improve his or her chances in the global marketplace by publishing a profile and portfolio, all whilst competing in contests for cash prizes and making new creative friends!”

We asked Stephan Vassen, General Manager of Guerra Creativa how they came up with the slogan: “You might lose a battle but you can win the war”. Stephan explains: “We acknowledge that when entering a logo or design contest there can only be one winner. However, Guerra Creativa provides real world experience with the necessary training to improve skills in order to help the creative succeed as a professional. Therefore we say that a creative might lose a battle but can ultimately win the creative war.”

Robotics Club is a FIRST at Asheville School

Asheville, North Carolina (PRWEB) February 23, 2012

Wander into an Asheville School classroom on most Monday evenings and youll find a group of enthusiastic students excited to see how theyve managed to transform a hunk of metallic parts into their very own robot.

With the help of alumni and faculty support, a small group of dedicated students have organized a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics team at Asheville School. Lately, theyve been spending their free time prepping for the NC FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) in Greensboro, NC — a competition they expect to be very challenging, and which they hope will teach them the skills they will need to win at the national level. The day-long competition begins Saturday morning, February 25 on the campus of NC A&T State University.

After spending the last year and a half studying robotics, junior Ryan Do initiated the club in October and worked with team members to build the teams robot.

One year of studying paid off, I think, said Do. I formed the Robotics Club in late October and since then, builders have met every Monday for an hour and a half, and programmers have met every other Saturday.

As Do recalls, the process of starting the club was daunting. Everything was pretty much challenging, he said. First of all, we didnt have enough money to order the parts we needed. Therefore, we had to work on raising money at the same time. Since no one in the club had dealt with robotics before, it took us almost a month just to get friendly with robotics parts and programming.

Ian Van Wye, one of the club members new to robotics this year, says hes enjoyed the team atmosphere, but agreed that the process wasnt easy in the beginning. I enjoyed learning how to operate the robot, though it does come with a steep learning curve, Van Wye said. Additionally, I appreciate the sense of camaraderie among the members of the club. I feel that we all work very well as an efficient team.

Although hes still learning, Van Wye certainly recognizes the benefits of joining a robotics club. Personally, I want to improve my ability to think critically in technical situations, and Id like to become more facile with the technology that will likely define the future of our economy, he said.

Thanks to financial support from the Stonecutter Foundation, the Robotics Club received the funds it needed to send the group into its first competition in 2012.

Anything that intrigues an inquisitive mind and develops the mind is exciting, said James Cowan 68, president of the Stonecutter Foundation in Spindale, NC. If these students get inspired by working with electronics, it can lead to career paths that traditional, more conservative liberal arts curriculums dont lead to. This may work with only one out of 1,000 students, but if we can intrigue that one mind, think of what we will achieve.

With the competition slated for Saturday, February 25, the club members are learning the intricacies of controlling their robot, and are practicing for the big game with racquet balls, crates and a bowling ball. There are a number of rules to keep the game play challenging.

They are extremely excited, said Charles Long, Technology Coordinator at Asheville School and the faculty sponsor of the Robotics Club. I was impressed and had more confidence in their abilities once I saw the finished robot.

Long, who will travel to Greensboro with the team, is anxious to see how the team performs. They have been faithful to meet and Im actually learning from them, Long said. I am taking them to competition and working with John Thorsen, Assistant Head of School for Advancement, to help raise money to support it. Weve also had support from math teacher Larry Kollath.

With the robots construction complete, Do seems confident that his team will perform well at the state level. I think our robot is one of the best robots in North Carolina, Do said. Now, everything depends on the controllers. Even though its our first year, I believe our hard work will result in a good performance at the competition.

Junior Brandon Liang echoes Dos enthusiasm. To be honest, we cant be more excited. Its really joyful and amazing to actually see our robot work so perfectly after months of effort. Just being able to work and make innovations with my best friends here can simply cheer me up. Besides, robotics has always been one of my dreams. Its fantastic to see your dream come true.

Van Wye too is anxious to see how the Blues robot performs in the grand arena. I am certainly looking forward to seeing our hard work come to fruition at the upcoming competition, Van Wye said. I imagine that we are in for a challenge, considering that this is our clubs first year in existence, though I am excited to see how our robot performs relative to those of other high schools. The prospect of advancing to the national level competition in St. Louis and representing Asheville School is a significant motivating factor for our team.

To follow the progress of the Robotics Club at Asheville School, visit the clubs blog page at http://www.bluesrulenodoubt.wordpress.com.

A nationally acclaimed co-ed college preparatory boarding and day school, Asheville School enrolls approximately 275 students from across the country and overseas. Recent graduates are attending Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Caltech, UCLA, UNC-Chapel Hill, Davidson, NC State, University of Virginia, Emory, Duke, and Wake Forest, among others.

First Web Design Conference for Sonoma, Marin, and Napa County to be Held April 12, 2011 in Rohnert Park

Sebastopol, CA (PRWEB) March 8, 2011

On April 12, 2011, the first-ever professional web design conference for the north San Francisco Bay Area will be held in Rohnert Park, California. This one-day event addresses the pressing need for web designers and developers to keep up with rapidly changing web technologies, without having to travel to San Francisco or beyond.

The event, which will be held at the Sonoma Mountain Village Event Center in Rohnert Park, is being organized by premier sponsor Webvanta, a Sebastopol-based company that provides technology services and a hosted CMS for web designers and agencies.

Additional sponsors include O’Reilly Media; Art Institute of California – Sacramento; Sonoma Mountain Business Cluster; and Engine Yard.

Conference registration is open now at the North Bay Web Conference site. Registration for the one-day conference is only $ 99, including breakfast, breaks, and lunch.

Conference director Michael Slater commented, “There are many top-notch web designers in the North Bay, yet there have been no sizable web gatherings beyond San Francisco. We thought it was time designers in Sonoma, Marin, and Napa counties had their own local conference.”

Slater has many years of experience producing high-quality conferences, as program director for the Microprocessor Forum for more than a decade.

The conference will kick off with keynote talks from Michael Slater, CEO of Webvanta, on “The State of the Web”, and Bill Mead, lead instructor of web design at the Art Institute of California, on “Educating the Next Generation of Web Designers”.

Web technologies are evolving rapidly, and it is a continual challenge for designers to keep up so they can design the best sites for their clients. The program includes talks on the latest generation of the core web technologies — HTML5 and CSS3 — as well as on jQuery, the most popular JavaScript framework.

Mobile devices are becoming an important part of the web landscape, and designing sites for them adds yet another challenge for web designers. Jared White of Siteshine will present “From Clicks to Gestures: Developing for a Mobile, Touch-based World” to help designers make the transition to supporting mobile devices.

The program will continue with presentations on four of the major content management systems: WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal, and Webvanta. These presentations will help designers put each of these leading CMS systems in perspective and choose the one that best fits their projects.

The day concludes with a focus on content, which is — or, at least, should be — the heart of every website. All too often, content development is neglected, and site pages are built in a manual way. The talks will address both content strategy and the technology for implementing it.

For complete agenda details and registration information, see the conference website.

———

The North Bay Web Design Conference is being produced by Webvanta Inc., which provides site-building services and a hosted CMS for web designers and agencies. (It is not, however, focused on Webvanta technology, but covers technologies and techniques of interest to all web designers.)

San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) March 31, 2011

Thanks to the Apple iPad and new tools like iBuildApp.com, digital publishing is easier than ever. Silicon Valley based startup iBuildApp recently added an iPad publishing solution to their suite of iPhone templates designed for the non-coder.

iPad publishing has created new revenue streams for businesses who can publish materials without printing and shipping costs. The iBuildApp iPad solution will be integrated with blogging and CMS platforms for easy publishing.

Create your own iPad magazine, catalog, or book app. iBuildApp solution has templates, is automated, and totally free to create and update. See it here: http://ibuildapp.com/ipad_self_publishing/.

We want people to be part of the trend of digital publishing. Its a great way to build a global audience around your niche without the cost of print. With iBuildApps publishing tool you dont need a developer. Its easy and free to publish your monthly magazines, newsletters, catalogs, or books on the iPad, said Rafael Soultanov.

The solution also delivers a good experience for the reader. We believe that a digital magazine or newspaper should feel like a media app, not like a magazine reader, said Soultanov. When someone swipes from page to page they can choose different stories to read. Images are vivid, video is optimized. If a reader wants to comment or share what theyre reading, they just tap a button.

The fully functional publishing app takes just 2-3 hours to create and publish content. Just copy/paste content into our pre-made templates for the iPad, for free. The iBuildApp iPad solution will be integrated with other CMS platforms such as WordPress, Drupal and Joomla. It simply requires snippets of code from iBuildApp to be inserted into the CMS code.

Services make it less complicated for authors to publish and manage their own publishing (magazines and books). By using a service, publishers can focus on their content and leave the formatting, publishing and distribution to iBuildapp. Unlike other services iBuildApp Self-Publishing Solution provides authors with a free online editor, free formatting and design templates and integrated publishing for iPad and Web.

iBuildApp believes in the power of ideas and the creativity of the crowd. Our automated self-publishing solution lets creators of all kinds from individuals to enterprises make and monetize content on iPad. iBuildapp lets content owners quickly create and publish their content on iPad with ability to monetize the content.

pixelhose.com Announces Winners of Its First Writing Competition

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) April 25, 2012

pixelhose.com announced winners of the web sites first writing competition in two categories: Fiction and Non-Fiction. Six emerging writers were selected from over a thousand submissions, from eleven countries.

The pixelhose writing competition is unique in that it is the only writing competition to include social elements, such as reader “Likes” and comments, as tangible scoring components. The final selections were made by a combination of pixelhose staff opinions and readers’ reaction to each submission.

“The social element of the contest worked far better than we had ever imagined. Not only did it give authors instant feedback, and our staff an indicator as to how the piece resonated with readers, it also exposed almost all of the submissions to new readers. In fact, most submissions were read by an average of 130 individuals, giving each author significant new exposure. The pixelhose.com social approach is a contrast to traditional writing competitions, where only the winning authors receive any benefit from participating. This Social approach is a key success ingredient of pixelhose.com, and one which we plan to further enhance and strengthen in our future contests,” said Bob Dourandish, pixelhose publisher.

According to Tara, the piece developed over time. “In the summer of 2010, I was on a road trip with my best partner in crime, Emily, driving back to NYC from a music festival in Tennessee. We laughed and cried and shared stories as we reflected on our epic weekend with the windows down, our hair down, and the sun on it’s way down. My ‘Mustached Murderers’ story somehow came up in conversation, and Emily laughed so hard she nearly wet the driver’s seat. She said, “You HAVE to write that down.” So, I did, and it eventually developed and found its way from my road trip journal into cyberspace. Becoming a professional writer is an equally challenging and heartbreaking career path to pursue, so I feel honored to be recognized,” Tara explained.

Zemanta Adds Seed Funding From Union Square Ventures Seedcamp 2007 Winner Receives First Investment from U.S. Firm

London (PRWEB) September 15, 2008

Zemanta (http://www.zemanta.com), the leading provider of content creation and discovery tools for bloggers around the world, today announced that the company had received seed funding from Union Square Ventures, the first American investor for the Slovenia founded company. The funds will be used to expand the company’s business development operations in the US.

By applying advanced text-processing algorithms, Zemanta reads user-created text, such as a blog post, article or web page, and recognizes the contextual content. Zemanta then combs the web for the most relevant images, smart links, keywords and text, and instantly serves these results so the user can enrich his or her content.

“I’ve been using Zemanta for several months on my personal blogs and it’s changed the way I work. Now I write and do my research at the same time, it’s a more efficient way to blog. In addition to recommending related content for me to read (and link to), Zemanta recommends images, hyperlinks and tags, all of which are incredibly useful to me,” said Fred Wilson, partner, Union Square Ventures. “But as I’ve used Zemanta more and more, I’ve come to realize that it can and should recommend many other things to me while I create content. WebsiteSchool.com is Holding the First of its Kind WSX 3-day Training Seminar in Fort Lauderdale, FL on October 22-24th to Train on WordPress, Web Development and SEO

(PRWEB) September 28, 2012

South Florida Internet Startup Company WebsiteSchool.com is holding the first of its kind WSX 3-day Training Seminar in Fort Lauderdale, FL on October 22-24th. The seminar will cover in great detail valuable website and online marketing topics including WordPress, Web Development and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Anyone that is interested in learning how to create a website, receive personal WordPress training, become educated on how to create a “web presence” and understand what it takes to rank organically in Google search should attend the 3-day Boot Camp.

The training camp will be held Monday, October 22 through Wednesday, October 24 at the Crexent Center located at 12555 Southwest 45th Street Davie, FL 33330.

We chose to run this at the Crexent Center for a couple reasons, said Website School Founder and Dean, Brett Napoli. “First, the room itself is perfect. Its just the right size and has everything the participants would need. Second, the location in Davie is as central as you can get to all points in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. We couldnt hand pick a place any more in the middle of South Florida than this location.

Learning to build a powerful website that is not only user-friendly but also search engine friendly is just one of the tools that attendees will take away from this event. Says Napoli, People will realize that building a website doesnt have to take months. As a matter of fact, once the content is written, a basic yet effective site can be built and launched in a single day. Well show attendees every step necessary to build a great website. This course will save small and mid-sized businesses buckets of time and stacks of money on just the first project they are able to complete on their own as opposed to hiring a web development firm to do it for them.

One of the best takeaways from the upcoming three-day training is that attendees will learn in three days what has taken Napoli ten years to figure out.

Naturally, the 3-day training will start on Day 1 with the basics before advancing to the intermediate level concepts discussed on Day 2. By Day 3, students will be ready to build their own sites and discover the ins-and-outs of true, real, organic white-hat SEO strategies. This section of the course will be taught by Experienced Domain Developer and SEO Consultant Benjamin Evans.

Beyond learning to optimize websites, students will also learn how to build a strong and wide online web presence. Certainly, the website is the core of a business web presence, but there are countless additional ways to expand and build a name online so that potential site visitors and new customers are able to find pertinent information.

Prior to taking the course, Brett is suggesting and inviting individuals to become members at WebsiteSchool.com. There are a limited number of free memberships available which give members access to a wealth of tutorials, videos, articles, advice, tips, best-of lists and so much more. By becoming a member now and getting familiar with the content that Website School has made available, students will be that much better prepared for the October training camp.

Seating at the event is capped at just 16 students so that everyone will have easy access to Brett and the other trainers throughout the course. Priced at only $ 435, it is estimated that the course will sell out well in advance of the October 22 start date. Napoli has announced a $ 50 discount as an added incentive for becoming a Website School member and for booking before October 1st.

We want to make sure that the students are as prepared as possible before the training begins. To that end we have elected to offer the course for $ 385, a $ 50 savings to those people who show an early interest in the course. Individual days are available at $ 145 each.

If you are interested in attending, you can register for the course here. Of course, you can also contact Website School if you have any questions or you can call Brett at 203-233-1686.
